rrs 2.7 engine oil level dipstick reading

Hi Everyone
Please can someone confirm if what appears as an engine oil overfill is ok or not? I had my sport 2.7 diesel serviced and after checking the oil level from the dipstick noticed it was halfway between the max plastic type marker, which has an arrow indentation on it, and the spherical plastic type marker, which is slightly further up. I questioned whether too much oil had been used and the dealer confirmed that a slight amount but not to worry as it was below the spherical marker. There is no mention of the spherical marker in the handbook but it states that the oil must be at least between the max and min arrow markers. To be clear, the dipstick has a bottom min marker with an arrow then 3 markers then a top max marker with an arrow, then a spherical marker 4cm further up the dipstick. Hope that's clear! many thanks

Yes, they have definately overfilled it, it has happened to me also. I used a thin plastic tube down the dipstick tube, and a syringe to suck the extra LITRE of oil out of mine, as I don't think it does any engine good to have any excess pressure created in the crankcase, and can cause oil seals /gaskets to be damaged and leak, not to mention more drag on the crank etc. If you are near the dealer that did it, get them to do it. (In my case by the time I noticed it,the dealer had closed for the evening, and I was using the car on a longish trip the next day and didn't want to risk it). Depends how far up the level is I suppose, but I don't think mine was quite as far up as half way between the correct (arrowed) ball and the one above. Never ceases to amaze me, so called 'Premium Brand' vehicles, yet there are so many careless, incompetent people working in LR dealerships, (and the factory), for that matter.
