Domestic gas up 19%

With the price of domestic gas going up by 19% soon would it be possible to pay £k's on your gas bill and wait until the increase and then ask for a refund at the new rate? If so a 19% return on your money would be achievable. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

gas company's pay for their gas in advance , so what you pay today is what they have paid ages ago...

But when you get a bill you pay for the units used, if as most your bill is estimated you could phone your gas company up with your own marked up reading, pay the bill that comes and then in 6 months when the domestic gas price has risen by 19% phone up again with a new reading which would give you a credit of units used, claim a refund and get 19% on the money you paid 6 months earlier. Is that too simplistic? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

but your credit will be in sterling so when the gas unit price goes up then you have to pay that price.

No your reading is always in units and the unit price will be 19% higher. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

If you prove false meter readings what are the legal implications?

Say your give a over inflated user reading of 20000 to get into credit, then they come and check the meter due to the excessive use you have used between readings only to find your meter is givings it's true readings of say 19500, they suddenly think you have rigged your meter and wiped off 500 units of gas, investage and you can't prove you haven't and get done for meter tampering, fraud etc etc

Why not save the 19% increase by changing companies??
I was with brittish gas, changed a year ago to Scottish hydro for duel fuel, I kept the payments the same to check if it really was cheaper, and I am now £500 in credit which I have left on my account .
This news of increases made me check again, and hydro are still showing cheapest over Eon by £500 a year!!
I have no affiliation to Scottish hydro btw! MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

If im reading you correctly (pun intended) your saying:
Ring up energy company on 1st June to give a reading of 300 Units but the actual reading is 200 units
The price increases
you then provide your next reading on the 1st Jan of 290 untis actual

One problem is if they do an acutal reading (eg send the readers out...which they do) Mike

When i moved into my house many moons ago, the builders read the electric meter and wrote it on a bit of paper as builders do, it was reading 696, when they informed the enegry company of the reading he read it upside down 969 which the building company then paid Laughing so 3 months later when we read our meter again we were still in credit by some margin Thumbs Up Genuine mistake.
You could always say you got your young kid to read the meter and they must of given you a wrong reading Rolling with laughter
