Hi guys.. bit of a crud day today!
Super T sorry to hear about this mate.. is a right b*** ache as u said.

This is the reason why you should never put you're plates visible on the internet specially on forums like this one!

Imagine this scenario.. someone nicks an RRS.. stores it for two days, no tracker goes off.. they now need to move it to port and get it offshore but can't get detected as obviously the car will probably have been reported nicked by now. So you go on the internet and by george.. there is a forum for RRS owners all with galleries with their plates on show! even descriptions to see.. i.e. colour, individual trims etc.. so they have a range of 'legit' cars to clone and copy and i bet they won't be doing 30 mph when displaying your plates through every camera that they come across!

I read somewhere recently that this is becoming more and more of a problem with the increase in speed cameras as well as people getting closer to being banned.. normal every day hard working citizens would consider this if it meant keeping their license! how many times do you get stopped in your cars? i got stopped once in my range rover, never in my last two Bmws etc.. so would be easy enough to get away with..
imagine all the speeding tickets and parking fines that you could avoid? its the governments fault.. lets all blame them!

I've always thought there's a market for a number plate that's actually an LCD strip - you have a little PCB which has an embedded number plate generator on it and your number plate changes every 15 secs. They'd even be SPECS-proof.

Anyone want to fund that venture for me? Wink

haha.. sorry Schmoogle my pockets are empty right now.. u know i would!? Wink

Anyway.. more spiel that i read which you just reminded me of..
First step to number plate security was to phase in licensed number plate makers, so every number plate displays post code of who made it on there.. but right now there are still dodgy market stalls and the old internet companies based in ireland so you can get round this still..

Next generation car marking will involve in built chips to the car which will communicate with authorities and new equipment etc, which will be linked into insurance/mot/tax databases, so you can get done almost immediately!

Also will log if the cars plates have been removed from the car.. and the coppers/authority challenging the chip will have details on tap immediately through central database.. i will try and find my source for this info.. but it has been a while..

Remember big brother is watching!!

Nah ST.. im not saying this is the reason you've had ur plates cloned.. it was probably bad luck.. your car was in the wrong place at the wrong time when the guys who created the clone saw you're car..

But i remember discussing this issue with a couple of guys in the earlier days of this forum, and since then its become practice really to white/yellow out number plates on pics.. if someone is looking to clone an RRS where better then the RRSport owners site to come and get the relevant info from?

I don't show my plates on any forum i visit, and am surprised when people show off their plates in full.. might not cause an issue, but you never know who's looking!

sorry Va.. forgot u used to have urs on display.. would this make you reconsider then?

I used to have mine on show on this other forum.. then when robin the tree hugging Censored started apparently trying to guess numberplates i thought i should remove all traces of my plate.. as its been the same for about 4 cars now..

Not for long though! my plate transfer process from the pimp mobile is nearly complete.. just in time for the RS4 hopefully!!
