key stopped working

Hi
RR sport 55 plate 47k miles. My key will not open the vehicle doors remotely. It will start the engine when in the ignition. Several days ago this happened. I did a search and found a procedure on the forum to re programe the key. This worked for a few days but has now happened again. IE , will not open doors remotely but starts the engine from the ign switch. The spare key that my wife hardly ever uses is fine?

Any ideas much appreciated.

Cheers
Chi Confused

Hi Ady 555

Thanks for the reply. Is it easy to open the fob? I assume i will need to re- program the key once battery changed?

Cheers

The battery is non serviceable, and recharges while the engine is running. If the battery charge is low, the remote operating range is reduced.
The nominal life of the battery is approximately 14 years

key fob

Hi Bobby
Many thanks for your reply. The key that has failed has been in regular use for the 5 years.

Did a re programme , after researching the forum, which worked fine for a few days. Now the key will not open or lock the car remotely but does work in the ign switch as usual. My wifes key that hardly gets used , is fine.

Do you feel it is a problem with the electronics within the key? do you know of a procedure also to re programme ?
Cheers

Hi chi,

There could be many reasons for the key fob not to unlock your vehicle remotely. It could be some problem with the PCB board in your key fob that generates RF signals for remote operation; the problem could be with the RF receiver itself that converts the signals from the remote handset into digital messages and transmits them to the CJB; or the cause could be in the CJB itself!

Usually, if the rolling code of an ignition key loses synchronisation with the CJB (central junction box) , the remote operating functions will cease to operate. Normally synchronisation can be restored by starting the engine with the unsynchronized ignition key and allowing the engine to run for a minimum of 6 minutes.

Your dealer should be able to scan for stored DTCs that indicate possible causes and what action to be taken. Malaysia Boleh!
