Malaysia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Chawton White

Excuse me, but are you a native Singaporean or an expat living there? Surely you jest about safety on deserted roads in our region etc. That's a little dramatic!! I think we are very much safer than the streets of New York in daylight! Laughing

Seriously though, I have traversed the length and breadth of Malaysia and Singapore in Range Rovers for more than 30 years and I've not had any problems! I would dare say safety in these parts is no worse than that in the UK/Europe.
In my 40 years of association with LR, I have not heard of any LR vehicle being robbed! Laughing In fact LR vehicles are the robbers' least favoured car! Smile

Reliability wise, I've seen my fair share of BMW's and other European brands stranded on the roadside!! Wink

You're right about residuals and resale value though - but then you do not buy a Range Rover with those worries in mind! It does not work that way!

So, if you decide to get a RRS (which I hope you do), just enjoy it forget about the rest!! Wink Wink Malaysia Boleh!

(3) Can see that you're a brits? Humm, believe it cost slightly over 70+,000 GBP? If this is what you term as Éxpensive then you must be having a heart attack when told that a Range Rover Sports Supercharged MY2011 cost 211,000 GBP! That's Singapore car / truck pricing for you. Wait, there's this incovenient fact that yearly road tax costs 2900 GBP which one needs to renew yearly. It's

Sorry, i never 'jest'on safety, i was robbed at a petrol kiosk by drugs addict at syringe point which he cited that he is a AIDS carrier & if i don't hand over S$100, he'll 'jab'me with it! It happened approx 2-2 half weeks ago at Johor bahru

separately, have been going to your lovely country for weekly sunday morning blast thru the plantation / B Roads just to soak in the surroundings & super duper good food. However there was 3 incidents where cars (Ferrari's & Porsche) went off the roads & into the drain at best or down a revine at worse. We have contacted our usual low bed towing trucks & while waiting for them to reach us, there's a lot of tow trucks gangs who comes & use hard handed tactics akin to gangsta extorting money/ protection fees.

The above are cases that i've been there & experience 1st hand, however i believe you'll have read or heard of innumerable cases which are much worse then what i've experienced.

Now, i am just taking precaution in having a car/truck that is trustworthy so that i do not need to face any eventualities if anything should happen- believe you've heard, prevention better then cure?

I Totally couldn'T agree with you more than there's marques which seems establlished but lack in many depts. However i also believe you must agree that if a Top german marque does f*%$# up, it's usually an odd car out when comparing against the numbers of cars they make. However this doesn't seem true for the RR marque- it's sad from all the reading i have been doing

Unfortunately nope, Seperatly- have u been to Malaysia? Driven around to all the secluded beachside resorts/ fishing villages / durians plantations? By these I mean driving via single lane trunk roads via palm oil/ rubber plantations. It's outside KL & usually located in excess if 100km outside main city.

On another note, ever tried south Thailand? Driving fm North Eastern tip of Malaysia into south Thailand & head North to Bangkok & Changmai?

It's a pity that you didn't have the opportunity to explore various parts of Malaysia via self driving Big Cry You should at least explore all the various exciting/ exotic places that are in store for the advanturous Wink

As for Thailand, if u do head south, be prepared to have mobile silence ( pre-empt Muslim separatist fm detonating bombs via mobile) while u're there & the only way to contact the outside world is only land base line. Make sure you have buddy in another vehicle for if anybody vehicle is down, there's a spare & also make sure you have foam fillers for puncture + full size wheel (u might not wanna change wheel in some certain areas & if one is running bigger than 16" wheels, one will be kinda scre*€# cos most if not all tires shops doesn't carry anything bigger then 16" tires) & that goes for Malaysia also.

Lastly, be prepared to have at least a titanium/ aluminum baseball bat in car in case of any eventualities - am not kidding here. The only diff in many countries in South East Asia countries police force & the crooks are that the police are wearing uniform & are sanction by the state to carry arms but the crooks are not but both have the same aim- that is to extract whatever you have Whistle

Actually what I've cited are personal experiences. However there's innumerable cases reported in the Malaysian press of (1) ladies raped/ murdered & body dismembered (2) Countless of courting couple robbed, lady gang rapped countless of times over a few days & left naked in plantations (3) Mother & daughter rapped early in the mornings going to the cemeteries to pay their respect to the dead, robbed & carjacked. (4) most recent case which cause an uproar in the Malaysian press- a men was being attacked with parangs (long knives) & he drove towards the nearest police station, while drive there, his assailants followed him in another car & the victim rang that nearest police station, the policemen on duty awed him to buzz off! When victim reaves the police station, he asked the policemen on duty inhe was the one whom asked him to buzz off when he reported that he was assauted & followed, the policemen replied coyly Yes & what are u doing abt it.

There simply too many to cite buy I believe Liverpool police doesn't act this way- do they?
