Detachable tow ball

Hi

I have a second hand detachable tow ball and a new lock (the complete green assembly with 2 new keys)

Does anyone know how to take the old one off and put the new on? I have the keys for both.

Thanks Mike

Just above the number "1" on the green plastic you will see a small metal roll pin, using a small punch (approx 2-3 mm diameter) punch the pin out and the old part will come off, reverse the procedure to fit the new part. Total time to change 5 minutes.

replaced mine but the pin would not move, and it was stuck on the vehicle, so i just drilleds through the plastic handle, been carefull not to damage the centre, then ripped of with some large grips.
If it will punch it is very easy Thumbs Up

Can you help me again...as i think i might be being particularily dense!

Before i changed the mechanism i thought i would test fit it. And you you think i could get it to fit - it stops about a 0.5-1cm short of the back clasp getting into is securing hole.

Ive followed the instructions, some idiot's advice would help.

I did wonder if the tiny silver pin at the top of the unit was the culprit as it does seen to resess all the way into the main body - it certainly doesnt sit flush.

Advice and associated mockery (unless the unit doesnt work Censored Evil or Very Mad ) welcome Mike

I have never had a problem fitting or removing the tow bar so I am a little surprised that you are having difficulty.
When you insert the tow hitch into the car the large locking pin should be fully retracted and the small (4mm) pin should be fully extended (approx 12 mm) when you push the hitch into the car the top pin will hit the stop and fire the bolt to fully lock the tow hitch to the car. It really is that simple! just a couple of points, did you have the red plastic tow hitch plug in? if not it could be that the fitting is full of mud. Just one other thought that the more knowledgeable will be able to answer is regarding the tow hitch, I think you have a MY10 car is the tow hitch the same for the later vehicle as the pre MY10 vehicles.

Thanks - its all working now, I opened the inspection cover (someone had been in it before and nearly rounded the head Evil or Very Mad ) cleaned regrease, cleaned the pin and the rear "lock" bit was a little more handfisted and all is well. I dont think it was pulling out far enough Mike
