Hi Folks,

I picked up my 2005 RRS on Thursday and all has been perfect. However, this morning when driving it has managed to develop a rather annoying squeak when going over bumps or taking tight bends. After lots of shaking and poking, it appears that the culprit is the passenger seat which is squeaking whenver pressure is put on it from just about any angle.

Any idea how to go about fixing this - is it a common problem? I figure some WD40 on the runs is a good start, but it sounds like its coming from the mechanism inside the seat itself which is going to make access troublesome.

I have a bit of an update. Was on a run from Birmingham down to Bracknell today and by the time I got to Oxford I was tearing my hair out so pulled into the servicies and picked up a can of WD40. I bodged together an ad-hoc cover for the nav system under the passenger seat with the Esso carrier bag and then set about the seat rails with the WD40. I also put it as far forward as I could to get inside the machinism and squired some more in there - sadly I could only get to about 5% of it as most of the mechanism seems to be inside the seat and I couldnt get at it. Whilst doing this, I found some old bits of junk hidden away in the deep crevicies under the seat. Anyway, all of that and guess what.....it fixed nothing. Still squeaking. ARRGH.

I continued down the M40, but about 5 mins later, for seemingly no reason what-so-ever, it just stopped. Oxford to Bracknell, no noise.... then all the way from Bracknell back to Worcester, no noise. Im confused. Its either a miracle self healing car or I guess the WD40 and removing stuff dis-lodged something as I rolled along. Either way, problem solved and its back to being perfect again - happy days.

Also, everyone said the MPG would be terrible and all the rest of it. I got 23.8MPG on the way down there and back. That is significantly better than my last car which was half a tonne of RX8 with a 1.3. Thats right, almost 3 tonnes of RRS and 8 cylinders with 4.4 litres of displacment is more efficient on a run. I had this problem a few years back.
It was a squeak from the passengers seat, but only when a passenger was sat in it.
After 3 attempts, I found one of the rear height adjustment arms was rubbing against the seat framework (the paint had worn off). I just put a thin smear of grease on the arm, and it's been o.k. ever since.

Maybe it just took a while for the WD40 to find it's target on your car.
