iPod problem

Now all you young guys fresh out of school hopefully can help me here.... I recently bought one of these new fangled iPod Nano's and a wonderful thing it is too. I can annoy other passengers on the underground, on trains and at airports with my "hissing" ears now too! However today I plugged it into the USB socket on my laptop and all day all it has displayed is "Do Not Disconnect" and a no entry symbol. Well I have disconnected it and put it onto a charger and recharged it until the diplay said it was fully charged up. So I've reconnected it to my laptop and b*gger me it still shows the Do Not Disconnect screen. So what's up with it? Could it be trying to download new stuff from my i-library as I have used this to copy some new cd's to my hard drive? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Sorry mate!

Have you installed the iTunes software that comes with you iPod?

Do you have any other mp3 player software installed? If so, you may have to unistall (But not sure!)

Is iTunes set up to launch when iPod is connected? Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I don't have the Nano - one of the 30Gb jobs from a couple of years ago, but mine only does that "do not disconnect" thing when the PC has the iPod's disk mounted or there's a synch going on from iTunes. It reverts to "OK to disconnect" and a big tick on the screen at other times when it's just sitting in the cradle.

Tim it will say that if your download to it or not it just a safety thing in windows

What you need to do is by the clock in windows there will be a green symbol when you'v got the ipod plugged in before you unplug it just click on that then press stop on the ipod in the list then you can unplug it

Jay, yes that is how I always disconnect it and my other plug in memory things.
I have cleared all the tracks out of the itunes library, and when I tried to run the iTunes set-up as repair it stopped for ages so I did the big Cntrl/Alt/Del and stopped it. Next step is to uninstall and re-install the iPod CD I suppose! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Sorry Tim, misread your comments.

Do not disconnect is perfectly ok if displayed on your iPod screen.

Shmoogle is right, it's just synchronising with iTunes and will stop doing it with time.

Mine took a while the first few times I connected up to my PC but now only stays on screen for a minute or so.

When you've downladed/copied music to your pc, click file / update xxx iPod and it will reappear as they communicate to each other.

If it says do not disconnect, then don't as this can Censored up your iPod. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

Yeah, you don't want to get involved with rebuilding your iPod. That happened to me when I was a new user, but the new version of the iPod Updater and a new version of iTunes sorted out all that for me. If you often do disconnect when it says not to, you are in for a world of pain in my experience. Shocked

Well.......................... I have uninstalled and re-installed everything, downloaded the latest software update and now everything is fine! If you are using an Apple iPod then there is a new software upgrade no 2006-23-04 or something like that but beware that if you upgrade the ipod's software as well as iTunes software then whatever is saved on the player will be lost when you download the new player software. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

That's the update that disables the clickwheel isn't it? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

VA, don't know what the upgrade does! The clickwheel on mine has a hold switch on the top of the body that locks the click wheel anyway. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

What happens is the reverse action occurs - phone apple support, the upgrade is a UK upgrade only not for ipods from overseas they have clickwheels that go the opposite direction, unless they are from Japan, Australia and other countries that drive on the Left, it's all to do with using the ipod whilst driving, eu regs etc. . 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
