£500 for a service and no courtesy car??

Hi

Ive just had the 2y thing done by Guy Salmon in Sheffield

I booked the car in with about 3 weeks notice but was told they didnt have a courtesy car
This was an irritation after spending so much cash rather than a disaster and as the date suited me I went for it

They did promise me a lift home though and when my lift turned up they also picked up a chap who had booked his car in much earlier than mine and was denied a courtesy car too which got me thinking

Have we been hard done by?
What happens when the rest of you get your car serviced?

I had a D4 from them for the initial service and when our Mini is done the Mini guys drive me to and from home
Guy Salmon took me to within 30 mins walking as it was rush hour and I made my own way back

When I had a BMW they usually gave me the next model and engine up from their demo fleet - not daft those guys Smile

Anyone??

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
1st thing £500 for service, did they also bend you over for the pleasure. Never had a bill that high for any service and i am on £45K so far.

2nd always have courtesy car and is key to who gets my business, no car no custom.

I think the service you have received is shoddy at best and warrants a letter to the daler principle.

I had to book 2 or 3 weeks in advance to get a car when the RRS was in the dealers. Breakdowns were the biggest bugbear for getting a car though. Now with BMW I just call them and they come and collect it and return it after it's done. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

535d m-sport Platinum grey and a few extras.... Gone

X5 3.0 sd in Space Grey, 20's, Dynamic Pack, Memory Pack, Media Pack, Tow Pack, Rear DVD, Panoramic Sunroof, Steps, 7 Seat Pack, Reversing Camera with moving lines, programmable park heat, etc etc etc - Gone

Range Rover Sport Santorini, privacy, dvd, towpack GONE!!!

You are probably right
In fact my post was prompted by an email they just sent me asking for feedback - which was that they can get stuffed in future

Their price was actually 485 which was competitive locally with a spread from 460 to 600 Laughing

And I live 4 miles away and only book the car in when I have a soft day where I dont actually need to drive but it is convenient to have transport just in case

But even so it was poor as was the promise of a lift back
The traffic is awful in peak hour and I voluntarily bailed out and walked the last 2 miles as it was quicker
The other chap in the car though having a lift was shafted - from where they dropped me I reckon he had at least an hour to get across to his office, I was lucky
If he had been given a courtesy car then hed have been back at his desk in minutes - it was fortunate they dropped me first else Id have been the one shafted in the rush hour

Plus Ive never been impressed with the insurance XS they levy on courtesy cars
At BMW and Mini it was negligible
Guy Salmon stiffed me with a £1000 insurance XS last time
So I wasnt actually that sad to have walked home Smile

Cheers

When I used to buy my cars from the local dealership I was always offered a courtesy car even though they knew I didn't really need one, a lift home or collection of my car before servicing was all I needed. Somebody on here posted about how shocking it was that the same dealership didn't offer them a courtesy car so I asked the DP what the criteria was for getting one out of this dealer:
Their priorities for assigning cars (which are owned by the dealership and not LR)
1) Clients who had bought very expensive Range Rovers from them got another Land Rover product
2) Clients who had purchased Discos or Freelanders from the dealership were offered one of the vehicles from one of the other franchises operated from their Seat or Fiat dealership across the road if no Freelander was available
3) Clients who did not purchase a car from their dealership were offered a courtesy car if one was available on the day, it might be a Freelander it might be a Fiat Punto or it might be shanks's pony
If no cars were available then all clients were offered a lift into town to the shopping centre or the train/bus station.

Land Rover do not require their service outlets to provide LR vehicles as courtesy cars and anyway they don't finance them, that's for the dealership to look after. These days I no longer buy my cars from the dealership as I get a better deal at LPR but the local people get the servicing unless I will be in London when a service is due when James acts as car park attendant for a few days while I'm in town and the car also gets it's servicing done. I don't expect a loan car from any dealership these days - especially I don't expect a Range Rover when I take my Rangey in for a service. My local dealership is also a small family owned business, I wouldn't want them to have to increase the already very high servicing cost to provide other clients with a courtesy car. TBH I would prefer hem to always come and collect the car from my house as I know I live on the commute route of at least one member of their staff. It would save me the hassle of going 17 miles by infrequent and darned expensive buses to and from the dealership.
When my Defender goes in for a service at the nearest indy I am neither offered a courtesy car nor offered transport to the bus/train station but then he charges £30 an hour to the main dealers charging £110 an hour 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Ditto, I need a courtesy car due to the amount of running around during the day, no car no bussiness! I don't expect a range rover, any car on the lot does fine, and I get my insurance to swap over for the day( they still cover mine while it is in the garage!!) as the dealer usually wants a tenner "for insurance". who says us scots are tight Laughing MY10 TDV6 SE (debadged Wink ), Santorini Black, Flappy paddles, Privacy Glass, 20" Stormers, Mudflaps!

I wouldn't let Guy Salmon wash mine from now on when they were unable to diagnose a fault
just said need a new engine and then told LR Customer service it was driven without oil when in fact the cam chain had snapped, even though it has no part number and supposed to last the engine, Rocar Moore from now on the drive is worth it.

I had exactly the same issue, last time I had mine serviced at GS I asked for a demonstrator as a courtesy car and was told they were only for "genuine prospects" !
Since then I have used Gordon Lamb in Chesterfield who really look after me.
Recently I have bought a new one and despite my best efforts to buy elsewhere GS once again came up with the best deal by far so I guess the cutbacks in the add ons means they can be more competitive.
On the other side the sales avoidance team at Gordon Lamb couldn't even be bothered to send me a quote Rolling Eyes

Big dilemma now is should I take my new car back to GS to let them try and machine polish the scratches out they put on the car when they prepped it or just bite the bullet and get a detailer in and pay for it? MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Bradders, that was my worry,if they can't even wash it properly what chance is there there that letting them loose with a power polisher won't be an absolute disaster. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

Also you can chat with the detailer about the products and get advice on some decent paint sealant etc. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Bradders,
I've found a guy in Sheffield who looks promising but the details are on my computer at home and for the life of me I can't remember the name,it would be nice to know if anyone else has used him before I commit.
On top of the original scratches from the dealer I've got a few on top of the door now where the birds have been. MY2011 HSE Santorini/Ivory/Piano Black/Privacy Glass/TV .Sadly gone.

From what I hear from my dad they did this years ago......but not anymore.......

We have some decent BMWs in the family and business.....M3, 760Li, 530GT and courtesy cars are always always 1 series base model!!

At LR I get a crappy volvo or if I'm really lucky....a freelander!
