Iphone functions via the steering wheel toggle switches

After purchasing the Iphone interface from Land Rover I had it installed by the local dealer over here.

According to the users manual I should be able to advance to the next track on the iPod menu by toggling the forward and reverse arrows on the steering wheel...... but it doesn't!

I should also be able to review playlists by lifting the RED button or the 'call ended' toggle switch for 2 seconds. Again...this feature isn't happening!

The volume and iPhone charging feature are just about all that is working.... so I returned the car to the dealer today for some advice.
They have told me to book the car in again and they'll investigate the matter.

Before I do so...does anyone have an idea on what could be the problem?
I have tried two Mac products in the car...an iPhone 3GS and an I-Touch.....both gave exact same results.

Thx.

I had no idea that playlists could be view by holding the red button for 2 secs...

The fact that iPhones charges and volume can be altered it sounds like (and I assume you can play music from your ipod) a software issue... Vadim A.

You've concluded the same as me Vadim.

However..... charging is not going to be difficult...it's just a power supply taken from one of the pins in the additional loom connections that come with the kit.
The volume is working via the toggle switch on the steering wheel tells us that the main stereo controls are working...nothing much to that side of things either.

Yes...I am playing tunes and using the phone in the intended manner.

Hopefully the local dealer will call me soon to say bring the car in...we think we know how to resolve it.

I hope they'll fix it right away. They will probably just update the software and all fixed!
Let us know how you get on with it Thumbs Up Vadim A.

Thx Thumbs Up
Just one more Question. What would happen on the next iPhone update? Would I have to take it back to Land Rover to perform another re-boot or software upgrade?
Do both the iphone and the Land Rover MFU have to be running the same software version?
Just a thought.............

Thx.

Update.
I put some tunes onto the USB memory stick and pluged it in. The steering wheel toggle swicthes worked fine with the USB.

Both the iPhone and the iTouch have the latest edition software but could it be an incompatibe issue with the MAC's?

Not really, because there are other iPhone users with no problems... I actually tried holding red hang up button for few secs and it does not bring any play list up... It is actually phone control buttons... why would it control audio? I looked in the owner's manual, it says nothing about this function.

Try reinstalling the latest firmware on iPhone... Vadim A.

Will try again Vadim.

The manual I have showing the instructions is the actual Land Rover iPhone interface kit booklet. Not the RRS owners manual.
The iPhone interface is a plug and play after market Land Rover accessory. Not an original fitment. Maybe thats why it's not mentioned in the owners manual?

Thx & regards.

I found the problem! It's not with the interface or the Phone but with the connection inside the Carcomm docking cradle.

I by-passed the docking cradle and everything works as it should. Now I need to get a new docking cradle connection from Carcomm. It's a brand new unit so hopefully they will honor their warranty..... lets see how good they are or they can face the name and shame brigade on a number of forums.

Thanks for all contributors.

S.

You don't need to go to other forums to name and shame - we have our own one here http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/dealership-feedback-vf12.html OK so it's called Dealership feedback but if you have a read down the threads you will find the odd one about accessory suppliers too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

So to update this thread.

I was told that a replacement Car Comm cradle PCB would be sent.....a month ago Yawn

Since that time I have sent two mails to both the suppliers and not yet received a reply. I received a phone call asking if I wouldn't mind paying a second courior charge for the replacement to be sent which frankly I think was a bl**dy cheek....guess my reply Censored

Why should I pay for two couriors charges to replace faulty goods?

The KUDA mount is fantastic and I am happy with it. But they supplied it with the Car Comm thru cradle which is faulty and the after sales sucks the devils Censored

If they decide to rectify the situation then I will of course give credit where it's due...but untill that time comes........the gloves are off.

Update.
The replacement part has arrived 6 weeks after they said they'd sent it.
I fitted the new iPhone PCB yesterday and the system now works as it should.
It took longer than I thought it would but hey ho!
I can now do everything via the steering wheel toggle switches.
