LR fitted a new engine in my RRS but now I have a little gismo at the front left that says webasto on it, is there a purpose for this or what does it do? Sorry if it's a daft question

Should be the auxiliary fuel burning heater. Helps keep the engine at operating temp in very cold weather

The chain linking the camshafts broke causing engine damage and was diagnosed eventually as premature engine failure with only 92000 on clock therefore LR paid for new engine

Is there a need for it in normal conditions as when i stop the car it smells of burning diesel and from time to time i see either exhaust emissions from there or steam?

It heats the car up faster (inc engine) when its cold for a number of reasons...what you see from the front is the exhaust. Mike
