Noisy rear end

The noise appears after 50mins of driving, never on short journeys.
Its coming from the rear and sounds like a constant high pitch bird chirp (wife's description).
A very very slight touch to the brake pedal silences it, but it soon returns.
I thought maybe a stone or something lodged between the pad and disc, but couldn't work out why it only appeared after a longish trip.
Any suggestions Question

Nik I had this problem on my old rangey, apparently lr technicians told me it was the rear differential making the noise, although this was never proven as i sold the car instead of fixing it ...

Just an idea for you Smile

try changing the diff oil, sometimes the oil breaks down rapidly, especially if you have a locking rear diff, contact opie oils for a quality fully synth diff oil.

Only had the car since December so the dealer can get his hands dirty, besides, i wouldn't know where to look Mr. Green
I'll add it to the list along with faulty mirror and rocking drivers seat, and not forgetting the steering vibration i now have at 70mph which appeared after having the knocking suspension fixed.
Four months in and i'm beginning to think LR wasn't for me, never had so many problems with any other car Big Cry

I guess i'm going to have to come to terms with the fact that RRS ownership is going to have its highs and lows....
I know one thing for sure though, when the three year warranty runs out in December i will be heading the queue for an extended one Laughing

Booked the car in today but earliest possible date was May 5th so the garage suggested calling out LR assist to make sure no damage was being caused so rang them and they were out within the hour Thumbs Up
Anyway the annoying chirpping squeal turns out to be the park brake shoes which i'm informed need adjusting/cleaning or replacing.
Good to have the problem identified but who pays???? Only done 2200 miles since buying it so i think dealer should sort it out or at worst i pay a small contribution.

I would think the dealer needs to pay.

I would be very weary of his opinion. I only say this as this is what the LA man told me was wrong with mine at the roadside. I turned out it was the rear diff. He told me it was the brake shoes without even examining the car properly. Just as I booked it in for fixing the dealership spotted the it was the rear diff ! Smile
