Budget 2011

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the "reduction" in fuel duty of 1p per litre is a pure and utter P take Question

Putting aside the mess that the Labour idiots left us in, how on earth is 1p going to improve the situation? Aside from the fact that I will be sitting outside the local petroleum station at 5:59pm to watch that penny drop off, for every 100 litres that equates to a miserly pound saving.

Having just seen a response from the Haulage association who seemed chuffed to bits, WTF Shocked Shocked , at something like 74.5% taxation with the VAT on fuel, beggars belief that this helps anyone, whatsoever!!

PS: With a barrel at $115, how exactly are we paying £1.44 per litre (motorways) for the fuel of satan? Did I miss something, even when it was $140, prices never got this high.............this is truly an untenable situation. Evil or Very Mad

RHA are pleased that their road tax hasn't gone up Shocked i don't get this one bit, HGV's then its road excise duty, fair enough, cars/vans its emissions tax and a lot of bloody money at that, Typical example i use to own a mitsubish L200 pick up, it could carry one pallet, road tax at the time was £170 per year, fair enough, 24ft curtain sider 7.5 tonne that can carry 14 pallets £165 a year and does about 30-40 thousand miles a year, so therefore polluting the atmosphere more, where do they their advice from? It seems one eyed pedro was too busy with this:

Was it just me, but when Militwat stood up and started attacking the budget and its content with his cronies that formed part of the previous government, you just had the need to drive to London and smack him one right in the chops, thats once you had got past the laughable Sylvester voice from Sylvester and Tweety bird that he has to offer.........it's tough times because your bumbling cabinet caused it!!

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Just been to the local Dick Turpin garage and saved a whopping £0.63p filling up the Audi with Satan juice...........now where is that brochure for Barbados Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes

BTW, if you have a 5 minute coffee break, this is a very good read:
http://www.usgs.gov/newsroom/article.asp?ID=1911
Shocked Shocked
I know its long but this report from the USA goes to show that we no longer need to worry about fuel prices etc if only the USA would act on what it has in the ground.
About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil and one of the Forbes Bros. was the guest. The host said to Forbes, "I am going to ask you a direct question and I would like a direct answer; how much oil does the U.S. have in the ground?" Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, "more than all the Middle East put together." Please read below.

The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008 that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big. It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since 1995) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota, western South Dakota, and extreme eastern Montana ..... check THIS out:

The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5...3 trillion.

"When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.." says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature's financial analyst.

"This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years," reports The Pittsburgh Post Gazette. It's a formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.' It stretches from Northern Montana , through North Dakota and into Canada ... For years, U. S. oil exploration has been considered a dead end. Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves..... and we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels. And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!

That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight. And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from 2006!

U.. S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World

Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In three and a half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this motherload of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling?

They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.. Here are the official estimates:

- 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
- 18-times as much oil as Iraq
- 21-times as much oil as Kuwait
- 22-times as much oil as Iran
- 500-times as much oil as Yemen

- and it's all right here in the Western United States .

HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because the environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate our lives and our economy.....WHY?

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION barrels untapped. That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post.
Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find? Think again! It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has to. Think OPEC just might be funding the environmentalists? L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Ok having political views but a jibe at a man's disability is a cheap shot!

Back to budget - this windfall tax on North Sea Operators to subsidise petrol/diesel prices is a mistake. Led to believe previously that North Sea Crude is the "wrong type" for petrol/Diesel so why are the operators being hit? It will only reduce exploration and jobs. Non North Sea Suppliers wont be taxed as heavy and will take the advantage! Westminster at it again - red or blue or ConDem!! Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

Context or not - personal jibes against a disabilty are abhorrant. I am no shrinking violet either after 20 years in the AFs but disability jibes are too easy and below your standard of previous contributions.

As for screwing us - which government hasnt? All of them

Which loyal opposition ever changed the wrongs they complained about when they got to government? None of them Now - MY11 RRS Autobiography TDV6, Orkney gray, tints, steps, daylight running lamps and allllll the toys!!!

In a sensory and emotional context I would absolutely disagree, specifically towards his "one eyed" view on the national situation that surrounded him during his dying days at No10.....but hey thats the wonder of forums, you don't have to agree with me, but nice to see you read some of my previous posts Wink

I agree reference govts, they all screw us to some degree, but it has to be said, Labour supremely screwed us this time, no debates or discussions, global meltdown or not, they were borrowing by writing cheques that we could not cash, a facade of good times, more hospitals / schools etc etc, when in reality they had been draining (cue the gold sells off etc) the country for years. Utterly shameful.

As for the 1p fuel duty reduction................don't even get me started, another example of govts thinking (and in some cases they are spot on) that the electorate are absolutely dense.........you have to hand it to them though, they know how weak we are nationally not wanting to cause upset / rock the boat with such revulsion as a stand Big Cry Big Cry L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Hey? I am not sticking up for his decisions only stating they are the issue and dont warrant a personal hit on his disability. bLIAR was also to blame but he is truly teflon - kisses gadaffi and now wants to remove him from power - all hypocrites.

Ok while I am here - bLIAR didnt want to resign so waited to become a catholic until he left office and avoid that contitutional crisis (Oh such strong religious fervour he must have?). Vatican still welcomed him when the time was right - politicians and heads of churches ?
