GREAT TIP TO SOUND PROOF RRS NO MORE RATTLE

I've just DYI sound proofed my RRS using door seals, sound proofing forms and basic foam tapes. The result is great and cheap. No more rattles from the centre console and bump noise when driving over bumps.

This is what I did...

1) I sealed all the doors including the boot with 3M door seals. Basically this adds an additional insulation to the door thus reducing wind noise and the doors sound totally different after its installed very solid and a vacuum effect.

2) Using normal sound proofing foams. I filled all the gaps inside the car. Areas like underneath the rear seats and wheel arches, underneath the steering wheel and the glove box. It really reduces the road noise as well as any loose rattling coming from these voids. Again the foam is very cheap and easy to install. You can cut the foams to fit whatever shape of the void.

3) Using simple foam tapes. Again can be cut to shape and length. I stuck it inside or along the edges of any loose panels. It absorb vibration and prevent the plastic panels to rattle when going over bumps etc.. Very easy to do as long as you know how to dismantle the panels. You don’t need to tape all the panels but i suggest the centre console or where ever you find it rattle.

Hope this help and by the way, you won't see any of the foams as they're all hidden behind the panels.

This sounds very interesting, where did you fit the extra 3M seals around the doors etc so reduce wind noise ? Do you have any better pics you can PM me ?

I get rattling from my steering column which stops if i put pressure on the steering wheel so i might try filling the inside of the column trim with this foam.

Here's a photo of my installation on the doors.

You can buy the insulations on ebay

You might want to think about a couple of things...

If the 'foam' becomes saturated what will be the effect if it feezes and then expands when ice forms in the foan cells? the ice/frost may also very efectively glue the doors, hood or tailgate opening?

Door are vented to allow moisture from windows to evaporate and prevenet corrosion, placing the foam in the door cavity inhibit the aurflow..

Door are vented, any change will change the tuning of the stereo's base.

There is a much cheaper solution to stop the annoying rattles and it is already fitted to all RRS, it is a little round knob attached to the radio, i think it is called "the volume control" Laughing
