Access Ride Height

Having read a little on the FFRR site, I noticed there is a statement in the FFR handbook that says something along the lines of "Only select access ride height when the vehicle is moving" (although it does then go on to say that, in extremis, access height can be selected when stationary but to expect "noises" from the suspension system).

Now, having gone through the RRS handbook and done a search on here, I haven't found a similar requirement. Does anyone know if this is therefore unique to the FFRR or is it across the board and it's simply that my aging eyesight has missed it?

Thanks very much,

SM.

I don't know about FFRR, but I would not seem logical to me to only be able to select Access Height when the vehicle is moving! Would one then kick granny out of the passenger door asap before the vehicle comes to a complete halt? Shocked

For RRS the 2011MY manual states vehicle speed should be between zero and 12 mph for Access Height to be initiated, thus:

"If the vehicle speed is greater than 20 km/h (12 mph), the system will wait for the speed to decrease. If it does not fall below this speed within 1 minute, the height change will be cancelled. Once the speed falls below 20 km/h (12 mph) the vehicle will be partly lowered. When the speed falls below 8 km/h (5 mph) within 1 minute, full access height will be reached. Note: Access height may be selected up to 40 seconds after the ignition is switched off, provided the driver’s door has not been opened. When vehicle speed rises above 10 km/h (6 mph), the vehicle will return to the height access height was selected from."

If you select Access height when moving there is probably a bit less stress on the system. '08 RRS TDV8

Yeah access height is pretty much what it says on the tin. I have raised and lowered mine numerous times witht eh car stationery and all is well. There is a noise from the car but that is to be expected as the compressor has to work to raise and the air has to be dumped to lower. LR also would not offer the option to programme the key to lower the car if it was not to be used whilst stationery.

On the D3 certainly, due to the suspension geometry the wheels move (rotate) slightly when the suspension height is changed.

Recommending changing height on the move will guarantee that the driver isn't holding the vehicle on the brakes (or in park, or EPB applied) so there's no stress built up in the suspension or drivetrain, since the wheels are free to move to allow the suspension height change. Like this site? Chaps,

Thanks for your replies. If nothing else, at least it has confirmed that I hadn't missed something in the handbook which I would have later regreted.

Thanks again,

SM
