Engine bay clean up?

Hi everyone,

Just after topping up my washer fluid today I was wondering if anyone had any advice in cleaning up the engine bay?? Not trying to bling it up, just remove all the trafic grime and road dirt. Most are just plastic covers, so they can be removed and jet washed easily enough. But as for the rest?? Any tips.

Normally I just cover all electrics with laytex gloves and tape, then use a little "gunk" with a low pressure hose (with standard mains water pressure) using a old paintbrush for the nasty bits. 08MY HSE 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway Grey, Twisted performance cat back... and shed loads of extras!!!

The search option would have offered you this:

How superbly observant of you "Skywalker" you are correct the search facility does bring up that thread. However the more educated of us are concerned about areas to avoid subjecting to water under pressure, along with personal opinions of people who have actualy done the task in hand, not just "use 303 it's rearly good"

maby if you have nothing constructive to add you could just use "the force" to provide something a little more usefull next time. Thanks in advance 08MY HSE 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway Grey, Twisted performance cat back... and shed loads of extras!!!

"the more educated of us" Rolling with laughter

The constructive part my dear "tommy-boy" is that i tried to point you out that this site has a search engine.
As a new bee on this site, you can find all your answers on many of your questions, because during the 6 year existence of this site, a very helpfull data base has been created.

Didnīt mean to Censored you boy, have a good one.

The point I was trying to elaborate with previous post was that the search function is basicly crap. Its "searching" capabilities searched for a exit and once it found one it used it.

Now not to venture to far off topic, my dear boy, I was mearly asking for some constructive advice. If in the sites 6 years existence the site has build up an extensive and detailed database, then it has been catgaorised by "steve wonder & fat fingers co."

Sub forum catagories are a superb way of detailing specific threads regarding information to relevant subjects.

I could go on further, however I rearly can't be botherd to go into further detail, and I don't want to tell anyone how to run a web forum.

You haven't Censored me off, as any mong can randomly stab a keyboard. But it's the words they type and in what order they put the words that makes all the difference.

Enjoy your evening.

Enjoy your weekend. 08MY HSE 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway Grey, Twisted performance cat back... and shed loads of extras!!!

I use a brush with Megs APC or super degreaser, rinsed off low pressure

Obviously covering anything that looks like water could be an issue if soaked

The once dry, a good spray of 303, leave whilst doing other areas and then a wipe over

I would be very wary of spraying water in the engine bay area as there are modules that are not waterproof and rely on splash guards and things in the way to protect them from water splashed up from below but not from above.

The week before last I removed my battery cover and noticed it was very dirty and sprayed the lot with the water hose to clean it - shortly after I started to get faults indicating the transmission could not be moved from hi to lo and special programs were turned off. There is a module behind the battery that has something to do with hi/lo range and it is not water proof - normally protected by the battery and the cover. It is slowly drying out and faults are now less and fixed just by turning the ign off and then back on.

So be aware that a water hose is not the way to do things and there are modules that are actually not waterproof (which I find absolutely amazing in a supposed top notch 4wd.

Had problems with mine after pressure washing. Used the pressure washer from a distance aswell. All was fine until a couple of hours later when the alarm was going off and the car kept locking and unlocking it's self. Dash board, radio & satnav were also going on and off. Only way to stop it was to start the car. Took it for a drive to dry it and all was fine till 4 in the morning when it started again.
