Microsoft Outlook

I have a very annoying problem that has just cropped up.

My MS Outlook is sending emails straight to my Outbox rather than the specified recipient. I can, however, receive emails just fine. I have checked my account settings and there is no change to any of the settings.

Any ideas i am slowly going out of my tiny mind lol

Chris, Have you checked that your Outlook is not operating in "off line" mode?

Here is a link that may also help you troubleshoot the issue. Hope it helps.

i had this on one of the office computers, or atleast something similar

Ctrl + Delete to bring up the WINDOWS TASK MANAGER

Select PROCESSES

See how many OUTLOOK.EXE are running

I had two or three of them and selected to end the process and it will close outlook down fully and once you relaunch it should work {insert fingers cross icon}

Thanks for that but it seems to be all online, i am getting error message:

Task 'chris.mclean@dunair-ltd.co.uk - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Now the strange thing is that using my iPhone and the exact same settings i can send emails no problem??? Question

I hate computers lol

Chris

As you can receive but not send, it sounds like an smtp error.

Has your webhost changed the server securities? What are your 'outgoing server' settings?

Hi Kaine,

My iPhone is sending mail without problem using exactly the same settings, just my outlook that will not. I can actually send via hotmail as i have the account linked for ease whilst away.

Chris - you can't set detailed outgoing mail security settings on the iphone like you can on MS Outlook so don't assume they are the same.

e.g.
is the 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication' box ticked?

and 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server'?

and is server port encrypted or not?

Your host could change the security protocols that can effect MS Outlook but not your iphone. Mac's are dumb and simple and so is the iphone hence easy to make secure

Another thing to check is the recent MS Outlook updates - I know of a few recent upgrades to 2007 that caused it to slow down a lot and this update needs removing. - could be related

Thanks for your help kaine,

The problem has now been resolved. I removed and reinstalled my account and changed port numbers, all is well again.
