Adaptive Cruise Control & Voice Control

How do you tell if your car has ACC? I have buttons on the wheel for speeding up / slowing down the car....is This ACC?

Also when using the voice control to dial numbers etc the system can understand fully what i am saying and displays teh number correctly but then at teh end when the systems prompts CONINUE no matter what i say it is wrong, any ideas?

Hi Chris,

To confirm you have AAC take a look at the air intake opening in your front bumper above the number plate. To oneside should be a black/dark grey insert that has imprinted in it AAC. That is the device that monitors the distance between your car and the vehicle infront.

You voice control requires you to tell it to "DIAL NUMBER" when you have told it the number you wish to dial.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Charlie Charlesrmh

This is correct.
Also, if your car automatically slams on the brakes whilst you are overtaking a lorry in the rain/spray, and the car behind almost shunts into you, that also means that you have ACC!

Bob.

I hate ACC..........
As well as the above scenario..........
Imagine cruising down the road, listening to the radio minding your own business. You don't realise that the car in front of you is slowly slowing you down until you're doing 20mph less than you set your speed to, so you pull out to overtake and the gearbox drops 2 gears and accelerates hard back up to speed.......using half a gallon of petrol.
or.....
You're in the middle lane approaching a slower vehicle, you check your mirror to pull into the fast lane, and just as you pull out (it's all about the timing), the ACC sees the rear of the car you're passing and slows right down, just as you pull into the fast lane in front of another speeding car.
or,
You're moving into the fast lane between 2 cars (when there is a gap, obviously), and just as you pull out, the ACC detects the car in front, and slams the brakes on. The guy behind is almost never amused!

Bob.

If you have ACC you have two small buttons on the side of the cruise control speed settings for controlling the distance from the car in front.

Overall I love ACC, there are a couple of annoyances but as soon as I drive our other car which has standard cruise control I miss it! It's very relaxing on motorways when the road isn't clear to keep a constant speed. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

Yes, you're right, however, chris' RRS is a MY2007 and hence the above post was specifically for his benefit. Wink Malaysia Boleh!

I've had to change the "following distance" to minimum... because otherwise you're always over-ruling it just to keep a constant speed

Now it's much easier, the light comes on the dash to say you're closing up on something (50m or so), but it never actually adjusts the speed (in my case anyway, as I move out to overtake in plenty of room) and it only takes over if you actually do need to slow down.

Another hint

MPG is always better on the motorway when not in cruise control, go figure Wink RRS gone
