Brakes Applying Themselves | |
-11 this morning and MY10 RRS TDV6 started fine, except as I drove it away it kept applying the brakes by itself. It's not as if the brakes were frozen on, as it starts driving fine and will then suddenly brake (not fully, the wheels don't lock) and then release the brakes by itself again after a few meters/seconds. It doesn't seem to be a mechanical problem with the actual braking system as the brake lights come on when this happens, it's really just as if the car computer is deciding to engage them (HDC is off by the way, and this occurs in both normal and snow driving modes). Applying the brakes manually feels like normal when the car's not braking, but doing so when the car's doing its own braking nearly sent me through the windscreen. There also seems to be occasional whirring sounds from the vicinity of the back wheels which I take to be related, though I can't check this when I'm in the car trying to drive it. After driving the car about 100m up and down the driveway, it seemed to sort itself out.
My wife also experienced the same problem when we had to cold weather a couple of weeks back, but a restart seemed to sort the problem out then.
Any idea why this might be happening, or even what's happening, or should I give LRA a call?
