In the cold weather mine sounds a bit lumpy when first started on the day. Never seen the cold start message even in -28c weather, could be a feature on the 2010 model, I always wait for the glow plug light to go out before turning the engine over. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

I get the cold start message and delay but then it always starts and runs fine. Mind you I am on my second starter motor already. WINNER - 2009 ‘Just Doing What It’s Designed To Do’ Award

I know some RRS owners in Russia who also have a similar problem. But that is in mother Russia, they get very low temperatures.

Historically, I agree - the last car I had cold starting problems with was a Ford Sierra 1.6 in 1985! But this 2010 ![]() IN THE GARAGE: BMW i8 - the mid-life crisis continues and it's great fun. |

Well, it actually failed to start at all today. Tried 10 or 12 times; it would fire up for a couple of seconds, then cut out. It wasn't even cold ('only' -3). Was late for a meeting so I used my wife's BMW 1 Series diesel which had been sat on the drive unused for a week. Needless to say, it started first time. When I got back home I tried the RRS again and eventually coaxed it in to life after about another 10 attempts.

Sorry to suggest that bud but there is only a few things that cause the bad starts and that is fuel, glow plugs and map sensor!! Oh and the wrong oil, if you are running this the engine will really struggle! If it aint broke leave it!

I've found stealer's are pretty useless also unless they have a master technician! it might be the only option you have to run a diagnostic, at least you'll have peace of mind!! |

I know what you mean...I could write a book about my experiences with BMW dealers over the years. I'm new to the Land Rover brand and have yet to sample the quality of service on the repair and maintenance side. I'm not holding my breath ![]() IN THE GARAGE: BMW i8 - the mid-life crisis continues and it's great fun. |
