Power loss whilst driving
Hi guys can some one tell me if this has happened to them too.
In the last week it has happened twice now that whilst i have been driving on the motorway there has been a sudden loss of power and the engine is still runnning but i think only in one gear and until it slows down.
On the first occassion this happened when i approached a round about and the sign on dash popped up ' Transmission failure' and the car kept going but only to 30 mph max. I stopped shut the engine and 2 mins later started and it was fine. I thought it was a glitch as it was rainning heavily and must be some sensor.
But last night whislt driving at about 80 mph i decided to shift the gear stick into sport mode and same thing happened.
So i had to come off motorway and as i slowed down towards the motorway the car went back into normal driving mode.
Has anyone else had this. My car has done about 30k miles and serviced regularly. The only problem its ever had was the hydraulic pump had been changed 3 times now.

Having similar problems on a TDV6 D3 except with ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT. Fuel filter & MAF sensor changed and still doing it. Might be (on mine) EGRs but they are blanked. Could be choked intercooler (off roaring and 3 Tunisian Sahara trips). Glad it's only the offraoder that's affected, SWMBO's D3 is doing fine.

If the car thinks there is a severe engine fault, it will go into limp mode.
It is designed to bring you to the closed garage to have it looked after.
There can be a lot of reasons why it goes into limp mode.
Sometime the problem can be cleared by turning off the car and turn it back on after a few minutes.
But if the fault comes back, it goes into limp mode again.
Sometimes the only to see what is causing the problem is to hook it up to some kind of fault reader like the ones from blackbox-solutions.com
