Second car for Cyprus

Got to thinking what we should buy as our second car when we get to Cyprus.

Have to bear in mind that all new cars in Cyprus are subject to excise duty based on engine size and is worked out as follows:

Categories of vehicles per c.c.

Types of vehicles

Saloon and
4x4 (Off-Road) Double Cabin Van

0–1450 0,50 0,50 0,10
1451 –1650 0,85 0,50 0,25
1651–2050 2,70 0,50 0,75
2051–2250 2,85 0,50 0,75
2251–2650 5,50 0,50 0,75
2651 and above 8,00 0,50 1,00

Cyprus pounds per cc

As you can see, a 2.7 RRS bought in Cyprus would add somewhere in the region of CYŁ22,000 (UKŁ26,995)

Therefore, my thoughts are we get a Mazda RX-8 231bhp. This qualifies as a 1300cc due to Rotary engine and will therefore only attract duty of CYŁ650 (UKŁ780)

Anyone have any better ideas?

I would check on the RX8 Super............ friend of mine has just bought one here and was astounded that it fell into the highest RFT bracket. The taxman considers it to have a much bigger engine than really has, something to do with the power output and emissions. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Cracking cars though, despite the high RFT!
What about an MX5 Super................ the 1.6 has more than enough go for most folks and you could probably get a nice 2nd hand one out there. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Does 'Hairdressers car' translate into Greek?

I don't actually want a cabriolet. Too bl**dy hot most of the time. The sun is cruel and will 'Sniff out a bald spot' (Easy VA/Jay/Shmoogle, etc..etc..) in no time. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

I've had a moment of clarity!

For the second car in Cyprus I'd overlooked a car I've long fancied owning...........

A Lotus Elise or Exige!

Only problem is, I don't think there'll be a dealer in Cyprus.

i liked the look of these, til i found out you actually have to nearly lie down in them.. good for the track days etc, but would be annoyingly uncomfortable to drive as a 2nd or every day motor..

Its a difficult one, but RX8, Celica, cars like that? Or keep the Bmw, and flog it over there? possibly get a lot more for it, if cars are so much more expensive there?

As yopu can see my first thought was a RX-8 which based on what you've just said may be a good option because duty on car purchases is based on engine cc. RX-8 counts as 1300cc Thumbs Up

Elise is 1800 so that wouldn't be too bad but a new TT.......now that's a thought! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
