tdv6 or tdv8

looking to purchase a rr sport in the next few weeks,i have noticed the road tax is the same price on both of these.i will be using the vehicle as an everyday car and also looking to tow a caravan with it,caravan will only be 1400kg max.can you folks tell me the pro's and con's of owning and towing with these two so i can compare.i am aware the obvious one will be fuel consumption so any rough guides on mpg will be great.

TDV8 - fuel consumption on my TDV8 is better than my old TDV6, this might not be the general rule though. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Towing is all about torque, your caravan is a light one, but the TDV8 would make a better towcar. Porsche Cayenne S Diesel 66 Plate

I'd say a big question is whether you are looking at the old 2.7 TDV6 or the new 3.0 TDV6 in comparison with the V8. If it's the 2.7 V6, then I agree it would be best to opt for the V8. If it's a 3.0 V6 then i'd say that it's not such an issue, as the new V6 has plenty of pulling power and it then just comes down to price and just how much power you want? The V8 is still more powerful BUT the new V6 is no slouch! Thumbs Up 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Buckingham Blue

Hi

I have a 2008 2.7 V6 which I use to tow my twin axle 1700kg caravan, I keep a good eye on the fuel consumption when we go on holiday (about 4 - 5 times a year). On average we do between 1000 to 1500 miles each holiday, the fuel consumption on the computer shows an average of between 25.5 to 26.5 mpg I also check this figure out against fuel purchased and it is usually so close to being exact as makes no difference.

I find the power to tow my fully laden caravan to be more than adequate, I never drive below the legal limit and still have plenty of power to overtake when necessary.

What ever your final choice is I am sure you will be more than happy with the RRS performance when towing.

Jim

Slovenia 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Smurf go for the TDV8 it has better torque as someone already mentioned it and also consumption on TDV8 is good if not excellent (I just returned from my trip to the seaside yesterday and my average consumption was 8,7l/100km for 450 km. Also the sound of the engine is non to compare. The other thing is if you compare braking on new TDV6 3.0 and mine TDV8 mine is braking much, much better. 2008 RRS TDV8 HSE, Java black, Alpaca,.....

Never towed with the TDV6 only with the TDV8, and even with 4 tonnes on the back it makes easy work of it, consumption was 12l/100km sat at 100km/H. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

If the TDV8 was so much better, why have they stopped making it?

I think there is such a narrow margin in the performance of the new tdv6 3.0 and the v8, thats why they stopped v8. Thumbs Up MY10 3.0 HSE Santorini Black, Ivory Premium & extended leather, privacy, paddles, diamond turned alloys, Ipod lead that charges, tasmods, rrsport.co.uk stickers
