United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Main Stealer

Have a few niggling faults with my RRS TDV6 56/06. Took it into my main dealer for a health check, won't mention names but they are in Burnham. Received a quote in excess of £1700 to fix all identified problems. Wanted 2nd opinion so took it to an independent LR specialist for them to give a health check. i asked them to check things identified on the main dealer report without mentioning I had taken it there. They gave it a clean bill of health with the exception of the electronic tailgate switch which they quoted £19 for (Dealer quoted £100 + fitting). Most niggling things they did FOC (stuck window switch and wiper blade change). Main dealer wanted in excess of £800 to rectify knocking suspension and £60 for wiper blade.

Big thumbs up for Graham Goodyer!

So does that mean your suspension doesn't knock or did the independent miss it?

Many indies are just as good as the main dealers and often better - they have more to loose if things don't get done properly as they are often small family run companies not part of a large group. Problem is there are cowboys in the independent sector too but there are so many Land Rover non franchised specialists you can always keep trying until you find a good one, you often don't have that choice with franchised dealers. Just don't expect your car to come back valeted or get a free loan car from them - that's how they keep the costs down. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Being in Burnham, has to be Stratstones again?

Suspension does still knock but was reassured that there was nothing structurely wrong with it. I'll just turn the stereo up a notch.

Have recently noticed my seat moves forward under braking as if it is loose. Is this another known 'feature'?

sound familiar. I have just been quoted £7500 by LandRover in Knutsford for a new engine for my 4 and half year old RRS.

I have it with a specialist engine guy now and he doesnt believe it needs one, and he said even if it does, he can do it me all fitted with labour for under £2K

I will not be using main dealers ever again!

Yep - definitely a known feature. Check out Bobby's gallery i think he has a copy of the LR technical bulletin there. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I bought my RRS from Stratstones in Burnham in March but couldn't pick it up for 3 weeks which they said suited them because they were so busy.

They said they would service the car which did seem to have been done, after that they were supposed to change the wheel nuts, remove a small car park dent, fix the trim next to the windscreen and give a proper valet which included polishing out the swirl marks.

Turned up excited, took over two hours because the salesman was busy with someone else despite us arranging times etc (we had to get 3 trains to get there), none of the jobs had been done and I only agreed to take the car once they had sorted the wheel nuts, trim, and agreed to pay the bills once I got the paintwork sorted.

So....................don't be surprised, they are shockingly bad,

Really makes me wonder why JLR still allow Pendragon (owners of Startstones) to hold some of the Land Rover franchises they have, they get JLR more unfavorable comments than any other dealership network. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
