HELP! Exhaust Gasket leaking TDV8

Hi,
I have a problem on my TDV8. An exhaust gasket is leaking and it make a whistling noise. My dealer told me that maybe a screw was broken. But to fix it they have to pick up the whole body to access the gasket. He told me that it will be a very expensive repair (3000-4000€). Can anyone tell me if there is another possibility to repair it, or does anyone has an address where i can get it repaired for less? Thank you

Which exhaust gasket? Can you be specific?
Is your exhaust system with or without DPF? Malaysia Boleh!

It is with DPF. The problem is where the exhaust is fixed on the engine. Due to high temperatures the material is deforming and so apparently a screw from the fixation is broken. Sorry for my english Wink

Thank you Bobby,
So if i have right understood, it isn't necessary to lift off the body from the chassis to get to the exhaust gasket at the engine and to change the screws and the collector?
That would be great!

rrstdv8luxembourg,

The TDV8 exhaust system is supplied as three separate assemblies; a LH (left-hand) front section incorporating a catalytic converter, a RH (right-hand) front section incorporating a catalytic converter and a rear section incorporating a centre silencer and two rear silencers.

The sections of the system can be replaced individually. Service joints are identified by indentations on the pipes which show where the exhaust pipes can be cut to accommodate replacement sections.

Your dealer should be able to identify which gasket is leaking in the front, left or right side. The part which you say is fixed to your engine is a welded flange with three holes and it is attached to the turbocharger using three bolts. In between will be a metal gasket. From your description it looks like this metal gasket is gone and probably one of the bolts is broken.

Anyway, your dealer should be able to locate the service joint for this section and cut the pipe. Alternatively, get them to take the whole exhaust out as per the earlier instructions, replace the relevant gasket and bolt and fix it back!

Hello.

I am currently at the moment having mine repaired. For the V8 if it is the exhaust manifold gasket YES it is a body removal job. I recieved email yesterday from my dealer saying they had to also remove several broken studs and re thread the manifold. Should have it back tommorow, they have had it one week. Total cost £1187.

I can confirm, body off to drill out a broken manifold stud and/or replace the manifold gaskets

Have done this myself a few times already, caused by warped manifolds
