I think you will find that MTR's are quite noisy on the road and grip and braking on tar are rediced, also your fuel consumption will increase. I believe some of the D3 guys run on ATR's all the time, but then D3 has 19's as standard fitting so less of a problem with the speedo needing to be recalibrated. I have both MTRs and S&I tyres, have never tried to run the MTRs in the snow. As I said last winter I found the normal 20" Pirellis that the car was delivered with were fine in 10cms of snow when used with the GGS setting of the TR.

Thanks for that Tim... I think that I will sell the standard 20" road tyres that came on the car and look for a higher profile snow & ice tyre, as opposed to ATR tyres, which will hopefully do for the small amount of soft roading I may ever do in my RRS.

BP - Vredestein make a good winter tyre, wintrac extreme 4, i have purchased a set for winter on 19" rims, but they do a 255-45-20 i believe, look on sponsers (AJS) page to check, also pics of mine in my gallery.
