Wheel balancing information.

As i've provided W/A specs for these vehicles,i've noticed a trend towards wheel sizes/balancing problems.I'm trying to do the right thing by the moderators and post the relevant information in a separate thread. Now,fitting larger wheels to your vehicle will NOT alter W/A spec requirements because of the plus 1 or 2 concept explained in my W/A thread. The exception is when the offset is different from the original, which will affect scrub radius somewhat.

Ok,plain English,if the wheel protrudes more outwards, the more positive toe-in required for best tyre wear, and the reverse applies.Aftermarket wheels have a universal centre bore size. When you purchase aftermarket rims, they will come with a "hub ring" to make sure the wheel locates centrally on the wheel hub. This hub location is CRITICAL.Even a few thou of inch can produce excessive runout causing vibration.

All OEM wheels are are tight fit on the hubs with the exception of some off road types. There are only 2 main possibilities that cause front end vibration. One is runout, and the other is imbalance. You can balance the wheels off the vehicle till the cows come home, but it will always come down to correct hub location.

MUMLEY14,make sure your wheels are hub located,as no amount of on/off vehicle balancing will correct wheels that are not properly hub located. The wheel nuts alone do NOT provide the necessary location alone.Furthermore, the international manufacturer standard is "matching" the tyre to the rim, producing the least amount of runout and weight in the final balancing process. Also, optimum balancing involves using the correct stud adapters to facilitate correct mounting on the wheel balancers.I hope i've covered the basics with balancing here but have over 25 years experience in the field so please don't be shy,and post your questions.
