Does your service department ever phone you to update?

On progress?

Dropped my RRS in on wednesday, saying I needed for Thursday. I phone them wednesday evening "oh yes, it will be ready tomorrow"

I then phone them back at 5.55 (just before they knock off) and am told that actually the car wont be ready till friday now..

Plus, when I ask how much the work will be, and will it be covered by the warranty I get "oh you have a warranty? Ah yes, you do... i'll get on to the warranty guys right away"

Seriously.. the one way to get me to buy a new car, is convince me you will look after me once I have parted with my hard earned. They just never quite get there

This has happened on practically every service. I always have to phone them to get an update. There is nothing pro-active with them what so ever

And the reason for them p*ssing me off so much this time? I had to get the train to Poole this afternoon instead of driving - there is only so much leaked earphone music I can take, and people having ridiculously loud mobile conversations right next to the "quiet carriage" sign

Sorry... rant over

Here in the USA I was phoned as a reminder for an upcoming scheduled maintenance, and then a few days after the maintenance was performed I was phoned again by an automated teller seeking input for a survey about the quality of service I received. I also received an email survey after the service. Overall quality of service varies among dealerships but I think the overall bar has been raised over here possibly due to the economic downturn which has led to dealerships that are not only less busy service-wise but also desperate to sell cars.

I have a corporate service plan (which was offered here in Oz for MY09) which means 3 years free servicing.

Wwhen getting "serviced" I sometimes go to the adjacent shopping centre rather than have a loan car. That seems to hurry things up. I always get a call with an estimated time of readiness and then a call to say its ready.

There seems to be lots of reports of poor dealers in the UK, so far my dealer here have been fantastic on all fronts and I would certainly nt go anywhere else for a purchase or service.

Mind you by all reports, I think that 2nd Rower's dealer, Melbourne Land Rover (same city as mine) is a bit of a bag of Censored . Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Lookers in |Park Royal send you a text before your car is due in, and then they keep you updated during the service - then once picked up and ready, you get a follow up service call to check you are happy - thats good service for you! Thumbs Up

There's a difference between the "you're due a service" text or voice message and actual updates once they've got your car - the first is really just the dealer trying to get money out of you. Likewise, the post-service satisfaction surveys are not a "personal" thing, they're part of an automated process that is run by a third party on behalf of LR, not the dealer (AFAIK).

Actually having a service dept call me to say "your car is ready" or "your car won't be ready when we said it would be" is, sadly, something I've never experienced from a LR garage. It's always been a matter of struggling to get to the dealer at 5:00 to either find out my car was finished 5 hours ago or I"m going to be stuck without it for another day, and have now got to work out how I'm going to get back home tonight...

My experience is exactly the same as NightFox - the dealers I have dealt with have NEVER been proactive in keeping you updated on the ongoing work and estimated finishing times. They just seem to completely fail to understand that being without your car is inconvenient and forewarning is required to make alternative arrangements to be without it.

As I said in another post - fine if you don't mind chasing them. Compared to our family's other car (brand shall remain anonymous - although they also make a good 4x4!) there is no comparison - frequent updates, offers to drop the car back if times change - basically they bend over backwards to make your life (the customer) easier. Why can't LR do this? It's such a shame with such a good product!

Rant over... Very Happy

Landrover Hasselt send you a text with the details of your service appointmet the day before you go in and then during the day they update you on progress by text too. Only downside is they sometimes offer you a pushbike as a loaner Shocked

Dealers

My nearby dealer offers to collect your car and drop it off within reason, picked my Navara up the other day on her way to work (Sales Manager) and dropped it off later that day, only for an Mot! fixed the number plate and all for an extra £15.00 Now thats service for you, perhaps LR dealers think they have sufficient brand loyalty to treat there customers like s**t.

Guys,

Most Stealers (99.9%) seem to take for granted that your local, and naturally you will give them your business. They know you need to keep your car in working order and have your service book stamped so you will have your service at the correct intervals.

The answer is kinda simple.Vote with your feet and cash! when you go to a new dealers tell them that you have stopped going to your old dealer because of poor service. This at least tells them that this will be a one time deal for them if they cock up!

Dont keep giving anyone your business if they keep letting you down.

M
