Very worried owner!!!

Hi all,
Water in fuel warning has come up, contacted dealer who said not to worry just drive vehicle as normal and have booked me in for a week on Tuesday.
I am worried that if water gets into injection system it will cause expensive damage. Dealer does not seem concerned.
If the fuel filter gets full of water will the warning become audible or stay on permenant, or will it stop the vehicle?
Please put my mind at rest, I am driving everywhere expecting the worst
Cheers.....TC. Enjoying life and spending the kids inheritence

England 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 S Buckingham Blue

Hi Tony

I used to get this now and again on my Disco TD5, just had to undo the tap on the fuel filter, drain about a cupfull of diesel out, tighten the tap no more warning light!!

I have only just bought my RRS so not too well up on the car at the moment but I would guess its pretty well the same warning and fix.

I believe its just a warning not a disaster about to happen!

No doubt some of the experts on this site will confirm (or not) lets wait and see!

Jimbo

Hi JimboT5,
Thanks for your reply.
Found the filter which is behind the transmission cover and opened the drain valve.
All that came out was pure clean diesel, no water so, I assume it is a faulty sensor.
At least I know I am ok to drive it until I take it in a week Tuesday/
Thank you for your help. Enjoying life and spending the kids inheritence

Hi Tony

I must have carried this out about three times during the three years I had the TD5, it cured the problem every time but I never once saw as much as a drip of water in the fuel Exclamation

I am sure its nothing serious.

Jim

England 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Fuji White

I had this once during the winter and was initially v v worried. I drove to work and then went back to the car at lunchtime and all was fine. I don't know whether it was a result of the very cold conditions or what but thankfully it has not recurred.

I rationalised this in my mind though. Someone has put some water in my fuel which would mean I would have had to have left my car unlocked over night, or I have driven through unfeasibly high water (which I haven't) then how eles is water going to get in there?

ah yes, I'd forgotten all about this in my Td5... like you I just emptied the fuel filter and everything would be fine. Happy memories... Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+
