Resetting the service indicator

Grrrrr

Just had my 1y service

Mild irritation when they tried to do the 2y service tempered by the fact that they rapidly apologised and washed my car for the first time Smile
(I though LRs were supposed to be dirty always)

However due to the fact that the car is rarely used I have only just realised over a week later that the dealer didnt reset the service indicator

Before I start kicking off Id like to know what ind of a job it is to put right

I work stupid hours and just cannot get back to the local guys to reset it in office hours
I took a day off for the service and I cannot afford another to put this right

It cant be more than a minute or 2 with a laptop can it and if so Id hope to get them to sort it out either on my drive or in the work car park, both of which are within 10 mins of them

Having said that if they forgot that what else didnt they do??

Comments welcome

and James - yes I know I should have returned to the mothership but your rates are just horrific Smile

What model year is your Sport? My understanding is that MY08 and 09s (at least here in North America) have a way to reset the SII manually, without diagnostic tools needed... Try it out, worst case scenario it won't work and you'll be back to square one:

SII Manual Reset Procedure

* A. Press and hold the trip reset button.
* B. Turn the ignition switch on to the ignition position II.
* C. If the SII function is enabled the information display will flash 'SERVICE' for 5 seconds and then display 'SERVICE' constantly. If the SII function is not enabled the information display will show the normal odometer and trip information.
* D. If the trip reset button is released within 10 seconds of entering the reset mode, the information display will show 'DIST'. If the trip reset button is not released after 10 seconds the instrument cluster will exit the manual reset procedure.
* E. If the oil service value is to be reset, press the trip reset button within 10 seconds of releasing it and hold for more than 5 seconds. The information display will show 'RST' for 5 seconds and then reset the oil service value, the display will then show ‘END’.
* F. If the trip reset button is pressed for 5 seconds the display will exit the reset routine.
* G. If the trip reset button is not pressed for more than 10 seconds, then the information display will exit the reset routine.

My belief is that since the European law changed to enable new cars to be serviced by other garages, and the warranty stay intact as long as genuine parts are used, that the service indicators must be able to be reset without the use of electronic kit.It might need the use of all your fingers and toes and a few Control Alt deletes but there will be a way.

Block exemption regulations state that the independent garage should not be at a disadvantage, thus as long as the test equipment is available to us, we are on an equal playing field.
The service reset is performed with IDS/SDD or similar dedicated eqipment. I have yet to find the manual procedure work, although it is listed on GTR.
It takes about 15 mins total to reset with IDS.

Regards
Steve
