Rad
I think they need you to take a picture from the same angle to see how bad they stick out.

I'm not a fan of how the silver ones look, it kind of reminds me of wheelchair wheel grab rails!

I thought that... are the silver pics of the completed job? If so, wtf is that all about? Confused

The black ones don't seem to proud, although granted not taken from the same angle...

Yes, that is the completed job and they do protrude quite a bit but I guess that is how they protect the alloys. Shocked

Maybe an expert can explain why they protrude so much and if that is normal. Question

IMHO the blacks on JAD's wheels do look more discreet and as DAZ posted mine do look like wheel chair grabs from the back. Big Cry Never argue with an idiot as he will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Great Job Rad and great Pics as well. Thumbs Up

I would have posted two days ago but being quite new took me ages to upload the pics.

Here are my thoughts re: Alloygator.

Ordered online and very quick delivery. The package arrived with 4 hard plastic rings in it. I went for silver colour for my alloys.

One Alloygator straight out of packaging.

I decided to try doing this myself as the video on the website was quite user friendly.....

Tools used: Garden secateurs, Stanley knife, Flat blade scredriver, Rubber Millet, and a Pencil.

First I deflated one tyre and using the valve as a starting point started inserting the alloygator. As mentioned by the manufacturer it was quite easy to do and snapped in place quite well.

Starting point above.

Half way

Finishing was quite easy as well as I used a pencil to mark the overlap point and cut it using a garden secateurs. The fit was quite accurate and as Rad says a gap probably wouldn't look too bad.

Finishing Point.

I just did one wheel and went to tyre place and got them to do the rest.

My thoughts:

Looks like a good product but even if you have a ramp and proper tools to take the wheels off, re-inflate them and put them back on, it is a pig of a job. The whole job took over 2 and a half hours to do at the shop. There is always one wheel nut that won't come off easy...etc etc. Evil or Very Mad I am glad I didn't do it myself.

The wheel did need balancing after putting the alloygator on in my case as we checked the balancing both before and after, though not by much.

The shop was also worried that because of the alloygator it seemed that the tyre side wall did not seem to sit properly on the alloy. This however may be an optical illusion of the alloygator.....

Does it look nice on the car---not sure yet, but here are the pictures so you decide.

Hope it helps you make up your mind. Thumbs Up

Hi, How much of a gap do you have between the face of the wheel and the back of the Gator? you should be able to achieve a 0.5 -1.0mm gap. are you using the standard tyre/wheel combination? I am surprised at how much of the back of the AlloyGator you can see. give me a call if you have any issues.

Boner, The tyres are Kumho 275/40/20 on the standard RR 20" supercharged wheels. Do you think the tyre shop was correct and the tyre is not seated properly????

Mine all look good, but while detailing my car this weekend, can see some of the alloy feels quite rough in places....may need a full overhall or just new wheels...

IMHO opinion, those kerb protectors look a bit crap......sorry!

Only had the quote done, thinking might wait a little bit before getting it done, as they said they could do a full set for £350-£400 and they had a few finishes I quite liked.

That and they say bad luck comes in threes Laughing

Need to PM Jonathon to find out how his have held up as it's a company who he used local to me

Hi, hope you dont mind me replying to your post. I work for AlloyGator and thought it would be good to answer your questions.

1 - With wheels with Convex spokes you could still damage the wheel in some cases, however the chances of damaging will be reduced.

2 - The part of the tyre that seals onto the rim is well below the point where the AlloyGator fits. The inner bead on a tyre is the sealing point, not the point at which it meets the wheel rim. This means that there is no danger of air pressure loss, even at the join. They have been rigorously tested over a 3 year period and we have tried lots of different materials to ensure we have a quality product. To date we have not suffered any air-loss.

3 - The material has been tested with all known wheel cleaning prodcuts of a reputable nature. ie Wonder Wheels etc. etc. Is is fine with these in our experience, however some of the hand car-wash places, do use what can only be desribed as "acid" on your wheels. This is purely down to speed so that they can get you in and out quickly of the car-wash. This strips the lacquer from your wheels and over a period of time will degrade the walls of your tyres. This can take some of the colouring from the AlloyGators but to be honest i would be more concerned what other damage it is doing to other components in your car. If you get them to use standard "TFR - Traffic Film Remover" that they spray over the car it should be fine.

Hope this answers your questions . cheers Curt

Curt,
What happens at high speeds, when the envelop of the tyre is dilatating itself ?

Obviously, adding a bit of plastic to a wheel isn't everybody's idea of aesthetic beauty 'Sad', but I have to say, if you didn't know they were fitted, you'd be hard pressed to spot the difference between wheels with and without them.

On a positive note the ones with the protectors won't show previous kerbing damage or future conflicts, which no matter how well you park.......are probably going to happen.'Embarassed'

Its not a feature of the purest, but in practical terms, I can't see a working alternative to keeping my wheels pristine! 'Razz' .

There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation.

TDV8 HSE MY10 with pretty much everything including a vase of daffs on the back shelf, tropical fish collection in the centre console, hamsters in the spare tyre and finally sheep on the passenger seats.....for weight distribution, what else??
