Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 Autobiography Stornoway Grey
Advice please?

Hi all.

My RRS is now into its 7th week at the dealers with suspension problems. Had it back a couple of times but its never lasted more than a few days before needing towed in again. Then follows the obligatory 2-3day arguement with LR Assist to try and get a loan car!

Now much as I love the car, I have no faith left in its ability to ever be right now as LR Tech just seem to keep sending up various parts to try to no avail.

The list (that I know of) new compressor, 4 ride height sensors, some pipes, ride height control module and at the moment, waiting for an integrated head unit.

Now I'd like the car replaced as surely 7 weeks off the road and the constant breakdowns are more than enough? Question is though has anyone managed to get LR/dealers to do this in the past? How much aggrevation was it?

I've spoken to the dealer but didn't get an overtly enthusiastic response apart from trading it for a Freelander! If I'd wanted a Freeby, I'd have bought a Censored Freeby and not an RRS!!

Any advice on where to go from here would be greatly received. Want to try and get this sorted out so I can get rid of the Freeby loan car! Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

How did you buy it - if PCP / lease can you get the leasing company to fight the corner - they don't want to 'own' a lemon Question

I think Wokka on here struck a deal on a lemon for a replacement ....

Bought on the 50/50 0% through LR. Don't know if LR finance would be that willing to tackle LR themselves. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

My father in law has just got the local Jag dealer to take back his 1 year old x type and swap it for another as the alarm would randomly go off. The dealer had it in for 2 weeks couldn't find any fault but agreed the swap anyway, with £1k to pay for a newer car with half the mileage.

Bottom line is whether it is fit for the purpose. Check out this link;

All I'm looking for is a car that works and that I have confidence in again. Don't mind having to put in a couple of grand to swap to 1 that does but the way sales guy was speaking I would be trading in with the usual losses that incurs! That means them wanting me to put 20k in to replace a car that doesn't work which isn't on! Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

I can't give you much advice 4wheeldriver as I am in Australia and you are in UK and the laws while broadly similar will probably have subtle differences.

I had a selection of problems occuring within the first 10000 km (6000 miles) and around 5 weeks off the road. Parts replaced included a steering rack, all 5 tyres and a rear differential in trying to solve a steering vibration.

I did, however, always have a D3 loaner and the dealers service department were excellent in trying to resolve the issues but I suggested that the RRS was a lemon and that it was not fit for purpose and should be replaced. It just didn't ever drive like the one on the test drive.

After a short exchange of terse phone calls and emails lasting 2-3 weeks, I was "assisted" into a new car for a mutually agreed changeover fee.

I know that during the internal conference calls within LR that my salesman stood up for me and took my side, probably to his own detriment as he no longer works for LR. The "deal" was a concoction between LR and the dealer. I ended up with a better specced car which as been trouble free, drives like the one I tested, I love it.

So, if you complain enough to the dealer principal and LR, you may be successful. However, you will need someone on your side if possible and I think I was lucky to have a salesman with genuine integrity.

2nd Rower, on the other hand has had no support from his dealer and consequently none from LR Australia and is about to engage in all sorts of potential legal remedies. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Your dealer needs his arse kicking from here to Novgorod and back..Whistle Definately cause for getting a replacement vehicle, If talking to the DP nicely doesn't get the required result, then go in and make some noise, preferably when there are customers sitting listening. Good Luck. Thumbs Up RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

indeed, if the dealer is not being helpful the you get onto LR customer services and tell you want a loan car of at least the same or better, they will go for a Disco (which I was happy with) I have also had a FFRR, one time the gave me a Jag S type for 6 weeks, I told them I was not impressed with that at all! They said that's all that was available (from enterprise)! I kicked up a fuss to no avail, I then said fine I'm having an op on my shoulder and that I would not be using the car, but wife might Wink so they paid for it to sit outside my house!
Anyway LR Customer services could not move things along so I sent a huge fax to LR HQ (call and get the fax number for executive office) I then faxed almost every day for a week saying nobody had responded?? Got a call, had some heated discussions, negotiated on a price "to assist me" (that is the key term to use) into a new vehicle.

Cheers Wokka. Starting to get to the end of my tether with it. Every other day its LR are sending up "X" or "Y" part to try! Operative word there is try as they don't have much of a clue I don't think what's wrong with it! The Freeby's a nice enough car in HSE spec but I paid for an RRS to drive not a Freeby! Just stopped for a coffee on my way home after about 1300 miles and my back and head are telling me it isn't quite as comfy or quiet as the Sport is!

I'll drop you a pm this evening when I get home. Easier read on the laptop. Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Back in Sept my dealer principle, Mr Tobias Keller of Melbourne City Land Rover, told me that I had to come in and prove the issues existed! This was regarding issues diagnosed as existing by Land Rover Australia, and that had parts on back order from the UK to fix!

Exactly... I met with a lawyer last week to see what options are available... I now have a direction forward for my next steps!

I had a couple of, hopefully, productive conversations yesterday with the after sales manager discussing my options with regard to the car. He was in agreement that 7 weeks is too long for a car to be off the road and he would speak to the sales manager either last night or today about the options on swapping it for another RRS which I'm quite happy to do as I DO love the car.

Only problem now is obviously I'm not going to get another Stormer edition as they don't make them and the nearest equivalent is going to be an SE. Whilst I'll gain in some aspects of the interior spec I'm going to lose the bodykit that attracted me to the car in the 1st place and the 20" rims too. Sad

There's also the matter of the extras I've fitted since too. I.e. The rear entertainment, steps and i-pod cradle/connection. Would the steps and RSE transfer to the MY 10 or have the mountings for the steps and style of the headrests changed for the new models?

Any info would be gratefully received.

Cheers
