MTR's or Ice and Snow tyres?

Quandry.........................

Snow is forecast again, it's very frosty and icy here and I have a choice of Winter tyres or MTR's for a long trip to sunny and tropical Manchester and back............................ which to fit? I did a similar trip before Christmas on 20" summer tyres and on 6-10" of fresh snow and didn't get stuck. The car currently has the 19" Winter tyres on it.

Tim to me the MTR's are NOT tyres for winter but for off-roading. As far as I am aware they are poor in icy conditions.
So to me this would be a no brainer - Ice and Snow tyres would be your prefer option Thumbs Up

Whilst the MTRs would probably be better than the normal road tyres I would go Ice & Snow tyres. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
2009 Alaska TDV8 - Gone and much missed.

Have already been advised by Smarticus that MTR's on snowy and icy roads on the Defender are less than confidence inspiring and brown trouser inducing! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Stay with winter tyres if you are only on tarmac. Much safer and definitely more economical. 2009 Range Rover Sport 2.7 TDV6 SE, Alaska White, Almond leather, tinted windows, active rear diff, tow pack, HiICE, full spare: gone and already missed

2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zambezi Silver

Tim, I've got an almost brand new set of 4 of these...

http://www.coopertire.co.uk/content/discoverer-m-s-sport

in 19" if you're interested we can agree on a price - I don't think the shipping will be too much.

They've only done 300 miles (and I drove them all!) - They came brand new with my car when I bought it and I swapped to studded tyres urrr because you can and do here!!

Maybe you have some plans already, but worth a thought. - they get good write ups and are passed to Scandinavian standards. In snow they perform better than studded, but in ice studded are better. In the UK you cannot have studs so.... Thumbs Up
