Coming home from work tonight I had a puncture and enjoyed? a few white knuckle moments as the car starting sliding sideways going through a roundabout and the tyre collapsed under the roll of the car.

I was only a block from a servo so I gently wrangled the car to a flat area at the back of the servo where I could at least have some light.

After fiddling around with the very badly designed standard jack (note to self to purchase bushranger exhaust jack tomorrow) to raise the car, I finally got the spare on but...

I'm running 285/60's all round except for the spare as the bigger rubber doesn't fit in the spare wheel well. The spare is standard street rubber. The size difference is significant but I didn't have a lot of choice and decided to nurse the car the 30kms to home.

As soon as I started driving off the dash lit up like vegas, with warning lights galore.

From what I can work out, the car detected the change in height at the rear and immediately off the ABS and DSC as well as showed a fault with the HDC(strange). It then lowered the suspension (I assume for stability) to compensate for the error and showed a strange icon (bottom left) of a car with arrows indicating the uneven balance/roll of the car.

I assume the car will automatically detect the return to normal ride height tomorrow when the tyre is repaired and fitted but was interested to see if anyone else had come across similar situations, or knew about the protocols programmed into the car for situations like this? 'Black Betty' Java Black RRS 07 TDV6

The tyre was a blow out and there is a 6inch split in the middle of the tread so will be interesting to see if Coopers honour their 50,000km warranty.

Had the original street rubber fitted all round and as soon as the car realised everything was back in balance, all the warning lights have disappeared.

In the early days of RRS there were several instances of the supplied cheap jack collapsing, IIRC on one occassion trapping the owner under the car when he was changing a wheel. SO be very careful using the supplied jack, it sin't up to the job. if you still have LR Assist cover then call out the LRA/AA to change the wheel. So Jimmy Salsa you're a member on this forum - I've been watching your exploits on youtube, very impressed, it was actually your videos that was the last bit of convincing I needed to buy an RRS. Would love to join you guys whenever you're heading out again - just have to get the right rubber. Heading up Cape York in feb too although will probably stick to the bypass road this time as my RRS is literally immaculate and I want to keep it that way as long as possible!!

concur, lived in tropical queensland for 2 years from 2008 to 2010, even the tarmac becomes impassable in the wet season not rubber you need, its a boat  Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

I lived on the tableland for six years. I have been up the Cape in Feb before - my mate owns a share in a property up there. Won't be doing the entire trip though since as you said I'd need a boat, but you can make it up past Coen with little fuss. Depends on the year as well. At the start of the ye I drove my Audi up to the tableland and got as far as Laura on a day trip. Loved it, but will have a bit more security in the RRS (almost got flooded on the way back and scraped the undercarriage of the Audi numerous times on the crappy outback roads). MY08 RRS TDV6, Chawton/Black, sunroof, hk, 268k km
