Hi everyone.

Been lurking here for a while but as I wasn't an owner I never felt that I was qualified to post

I've been thinking about an RRS for about 6-7 years now but various projects (a self build barn conversion amongst others) and then illness have always managed to get in the way.

I picked up my new RS Focus just before Xmas and am sorry to report that it's just not doing it for me

Despite the fact I'm going to lose my shirt if I sell it, I've decided I can't live with it and it's now sat in the garage with 675 miles on the clock, un-driven and un-loved.

Anyhoo, I've been looking round and gathering as much information as I can. From intially looking at used vehicles, I've decided that the MY10 is so much better inside that I'm about to order a new vehicle.

I do have a couple of questions and would be grateful if someone could perhaps give me the benefit of their wisdom.

The performance figures for the new 3.0 TDV6 are not much lower than the 3.6TDV8. Has anyone driven both back to back and can comment on the real world difference in performance?

I am obviously after the best deal I can do and am currently in negotiations with Broadspeed (the people that Top Gear magazine use for discounts on new vehicles.)

Has anyone used them and can they really deliver on the discounts they advertise on the web site?

Can't answer your post as I'm just a poor TDV6 owner, working on convincing my wife we NEED a MY2010 - although I am teeing up for the new TDV8 due 2013. A beast by all who say they know.

I have had the misfortune to drive both of the Derv variants, aside from the carcinogenics and the fact that the smell gets everywhere on your clothes (only kidding) they are very close, but IMO the TDV8 still rules for the sound. Don't get me wrong, it's no "clean burning" Supercharger but it sounds nice when it takes off............you can obviously only tell it has taken off once the smog has cleared

If it was my money and if I was conscious of the fuel, go with the TDV6 TT variant, if not go the TDV8.....at the end of the day, it's less than 0.3 seconds between them......and the 3.0TT engine is newer.....Good luck  L322 Big Daddy SUPERCHARGED 5.0 Autobiography - Here & Now!

Whilst not having the privilege of trying the TdV6 3.0TT, i have the smaller 2.7 smog producing unit from a number of reports many still think the TdV8 is better in terms of the effortless way it achieves its performance, whereas the 3.0 v6 is all a bit more urgent and less relaxing..Could be total b0llox i know, but just reading from posts on here of those that tested both, that seemed to be one of the points being raised.. Then again rumour as it there is a new 4 litre ish type v8 coming out sometime in the future..

The 3.0 diesel is a world away from the old 2.7, but have to say the TDV8 is a fantastic engine. Decent mpg, great performance and it even sounds like a petrol. Having driven both, I'd still choose the TDV8, but there's really nothing wrong with the 3.0, it's a very impressive engine as well.

Decisions - decisions.

I have driven a demo RRS TDv6 3.0l back to back with my TDv8 (chipped) and wouldn't swap even if no money was needed. The TDv8 is exciting where the Tv6 is impressive. The TDv8 gives you more than you really need whereas the TDv6 gives you enough. The TDv8 is delightfully excessive where the TDv6 is effective.

We also have a TDv6 3.0l D4 and its a great engine. You dont feel short changed or worry about your ability to overtake or pull a house. But equally you don't get the boy racer grin that the TDv8 deals up.

If you got the RS Focus then you must be a boy racer at heart. So I think you know what you need to do.

A neighbour of mine just sourced a D4 from Motorlogix. The deal he got in early December seemed to me to be too good to be true. The only downside was that he was given a date in March when he would then have to travel 250 miles to pick up his new car. He was then told 3 weeks ago his car would be delivered to his front door 10 days ago. I was deeply sceptical thinking again - "too good to be true". But it was true. The exact spec he ordered was delievred to his door at the exact price he agreed - almost 2 months early. Still dont know how that worked - but it did. RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini

I think the others have summed it up pretty well and I can only agree with them, I drive a chipped TDV8 RRS and recently took a 3.0l TDV6 D4 for a test run.....can't say I was impressed if I was honest but its way better than the old 2.7 was!

You obviously like power having an RS and you stand to loose money by getting rid so quickly, don't make the same mistake with the RRS by getting a half hearted one (I will duck for cover now as WW comes in with a comment about a gas guzzler) get yourself a TDV8!

Welcome to the forums, the extra cost of running a tdv8 over a tdv6 is minimal, the fun factor of the tdv8 is so much more than the tdv6. It isn't the speed that the TDv8 gets there it's the way it does it - effortlessly and with a roar rather than a whosh of two turbos. A used Supercharged would be more suitable after an RS though if you can afford the fuel. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have driven both, Had a TDV8 as a loaner for a few days and it is very nice. That said though, the current 3.0 TDV6 is a huge imporovement over the old 2.7 (which I also owned for 2 1/2 years). The 3.0 is much more powerful & responsive than the old unit. The V8 is impressive off the line but it's all about your own preference and how much power is enough for you. I tested both and simply couldn't justify the extra expense attached to buying the V8 over the V6 as the 3.0 unit gives me exactly what I want. At the end of the day make sure you test drive both & then make your own decision based on your wants & circumstance. BOTH are great cars! Will_Wonka. It wasn't so much what was I waiting for, more a case of the housebuild getting in the way and liking so many different cars.

You'll laugh when I tell you that owning Nissan Navara is what eventually convinced me to get the RRS. I sold it in August '09 and I miss the freedom of being able to go where I want, whenever I want, whatever the weather.

If a Navara can do it I figure the RRS definately can, with considerably more comfort and luxury thrown in.

I have just set the wheels in motion with broadspeed who are quoting 8-10 weeks and a 10% discount off list.
I'll let you know if it turns out to be a load of tosh or whether it's genuine.

TBH honest I had almost definately decided to get the TDV6 but now I'm swaying

Just looked and the tdv8 is about £3900 more as I've specced it.
Decisions decisions.

If you go for the V6 there'll always be that little voice in your head saying "Should have bought the TDV8!"

Seriously though - if the extra 4k isn't going to kill you I think it's worth it. Either way you'll be happy!
