Hi,

Just bought a RRS TDV8 - It had a service marked "oil service" at 12,698 miles on 01/09
I have just rang for a service quote and they have said it should be serviced every 12 months. The car now has 25,000 miles.

I got quoted £727. This seems quite a lot. What should a service like this cost?

I've just had the 30000 mile / 2 year service on my TDv8

Costs were
Labour
30000mile service £221.40+VAT
fitting new rear brake pads (binding on) £82 + vat

Parts
Plug, Magnatec Oil 2 elements,retaining spring,brake kit, brake cleaner, wire assemblyscreen wash
Total £74 + VAT

So that was £377 +Vat

I had other work carried out on the car but those are the itemised bits for the service from the invoice

You need to ask why they are charging so much - I suspect that they have quoted for replacement of the Brembo discs as well as the pads..........................I was charged a total of £46.20+VAT for the pads 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Service intervals in the UK are 1yr or 15k miles, whichever comes first.

£727 is very high. Shop around, the price should be much lower.

My new toy,(RRS 1st Ed.), is being serviced at Guy Salmon( Coventry ), before I pick it up, they qouted £420, this was with some discount.

They are sponsors here and always have excellent feedback. Are you sure they were solely quoting for a 30k service? No other work?

NasMan, I found CHPR, now Lookers expensive. Try Guava LR in Guildford. I've never used them, only their price to get my local dealer to match it! Works every time... Definitely worth a phone call.

Lookers Park Royal have in the past been cheaper than my local dealer! Who says London rates need be higher than rural Scotland....................... as well as getting an excellent deal when I bought the car from LPR the first service was considerably less expensive than at home so the car went there as I had to be in London anyway 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I've PM'd Nasman direct. Forum members do get a special rate which needs to be booked through the dealership. Unfortunately our bookings go through an agency who work off site and have menu pricing. Unfortunatly customers do not know this (hence the explanation) and are transferred to our booking agency.

Lisa Wilsher looks after forum members from an Aftersales perspective, and if she can price-match or beat then she will. Lisa is off site at the moment but should be back in tomorrow. Unfortunately Nasman got our 'standard' rate.

We can't always be the cheapest, but we will always do our best to look after the forum.

Slightly off topice but I pmd James about mats for the car and had a call from parts within 15 mins and the price WITH postage was still best part of 30 quid cheaper than local dealers  Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

Always pays to shop around. I had a 60k mile service on my TDV6 not long ago and had a massive difference in price. Rocar Moores Huddersfield wanted £600 whereas Guy Salmn Wakefield quoted me £380 and I even managed to drop them to £350. I also tried a well know independent who came back at just over £300. I have always had excellent service from Guy Salmon and have been pleasantly suprised on price more than once.

Yes - Seems Lookers are busy at the moment, I beleive Lisa is away at the moment. Now waiting for Wayne to come back to me.. Took me 8 phone calls though..

By the way Guava Guildford quoted me £380 inc VAT and were happy to take on some warranty work regarding the well known suspension knocking.

Whereas Lookers are a main dealer and Guave an approved Land Rover Service Centre.

Should it make any difference? In terms of warranty work?
