I am new to posting on the forum but read posts nearly every day!

I am looking at the possibility of an RRS TDV6 - with the new 3.0 engine. I was comparing it against an Q7 3.0 TDi S-Line and the X5 3.0d SE. The Q7 is simply too big and the X5 is too basic for the money they ask, also the Range Rover's cabin is MUCH nicer than either of those two models.

So I was wondering if people who own the 3.0 TDV6 could give me an idea of their real life, everday fuel consumption. I know we dont buy these motors for their fuel economy, but would just be good to compare to the other 2 cars already mentioned, also do people think the TDV6 has enough power in different situations - I have only drive it for a short distance and found it to have more than enough poke.

No, we don't. Swap a RRS for a Q7 or and X5? Err... nope, no matter what the fuel consumption difference. And who's to say what the real life consumption of the other cars is?

Go for the RRS. Or don't. If you don't, you'll wish you had.

If you are really worried then think about this - today I saw the best ever fuel consumption on my TDv8, driving between Gaydon, Warwickshire and Manchester I averaged 33.9mpg, sat at 70 on the cruise, the second best i got going south on the M40/A34 last Thursday - 32.5mpg. Normally I average 26-29 mpg in normal fast A raod driving, I tend to drive "sympathetically" without welly'ing it all the time, but I do enjoy having a blast in it too!
This evening from Manchester north to Stirling I have averaged 30.4mpg, but not in ideal driving conditions and with the heater blasting and heated front screen running a lot to stop icing on the outside. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Some impressive mpg you got there, Miss Daisy I am getting about 20 round town but it easily gets up to 32-33 on a steady 20 mile run on the A roads north of Leeds. Given the driving conditions you describe the V8 is mightily impressive.

In my 2.7 TDV6 used to regulary get 31mpg on a run once engine had coverd 7000+ miles. just done a long run and averaged 28.8 in the new 3.0 TDV6 but engine only done 700 miles so far. I expect the mpg to get better as engine loosens up. I was also running with seat heaters, blower, lights and steering wheel heater on, obviously affecting fuel consumption.

urban, town, school run driving in my TDV6 I get 19mpg. This is stop/start, lots of red lights and a bit heavy right foot. On an open road run, 30mpg all day. This is real figures calculated from fill-up to fill-up and divided by the actual fuel used with mileage covered - and not from what the computer says (which can be at times). All in all, absolutely acceptable for the size, weight and quality of the vehicle. I also looked at the Q7 and the X5 and concluded the same as you - one is too big and the other is ridiculously over priced once you add on the essential extras. And neither comes close to the capabilities of the RRS. Hope this helps and enjoy your new car! If you see a bandwagon - it's too late.....

Muffd highlights the real issue with the TDV6's, and that is when you have to do urban driving.

Our trip comp is reset every fill up and as Mrs ST uses it mainly around town, the comp (Probably not all that accurate) will usually hover between 19 - 21mpg.

My journey's in the car consist of A and B roads at a avg. speed of 60mph, so after reading the replies I think early 30's would be what I could expect. I would be perfectly happy with that when you consider the car I will be travelling in and how luxurious it is. I am going to speak to the dealer and try persuade them to lend me one for a few days so I can test all aspects of the car.
