Should a Used RRS be supplied with 2 sets of keys

I purchased my RRS from a showroom a few weeks ago. Not a RR main dealer but has a lot in stock.
Really pleased with the RRS so far but was only given 1 set of keys.
When i collected her The garage said they would get the spare set from the previous owner but so far no sign of a spare set.

Apparently the previous owner is not responding.

Whats my position? Obviously i need a spare set but do i have to go and buy a set or should the garage?

thanks

Difficult one this. Obviously for security reasons you want both the original keys and if the previous owner doesn't return the missing key the dealer will be obliged to get you a new one but it still means there is a key out there somewhere. Personally I would get the dealer to sort out a new key for you ASAP as the chances of the previous owner being a total scumbag is small. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Thanks for the quick reply.

Is the dealer obligated to supply a 2nd set?
He definitely said he was getting it when i collected the car but he seems to be putting me off daily.
I am concerned there is another set out there but not much i can do i guess but i dont want to fork out an additional £125-£150 when i think its the dealers responsibility.

Its not an actual obligation to supply two keys with a used car unless it was stated either in the advert or written on the order form / invoice.

thanks SLCAR.

It wasnt stated in writing but when we were going over the handover he clearly said when i asked for the spare set that he was getting them from the previous owner. But nothing in writing.

Those VERBAL CONTRACTS not worth the paper their written on!! When you recieve the logbook in your name try writing to the previous owner because the chances are the dealer wont even bother trying.

Was it Saxton 4x4?

If they are a Dealer that is bothered about their reputation, then they should arrange for the second key.

When I bought mine used from a LR Dealer it came with two sets of keys, handy to have a spare. But there is no way of me knowing if the original owner didn't get an additional one cut and kept it.

Last time I bought used before that was ten years ago a bmw and that only came with one key, had to get one supplied by bmw at my cost.

So as VA says, the likelihood the previous owner is a scumbag is low. They probably just can't find it.

If your RRS disappeared without a brake it in at your home or your key, evidence would point at previous owner
and Dealer would be witness to it.

You could always contact the previousowner direct, there name should be on the logbook. They might even tell you that theu gave both to the Dealer. Who may have mislaid the spare.

Not a nice problem to have.... I hope the previous owner doesn't know where you live Confused

Do you have the name and address of the previous owner from the V5? If so, and he/she is local - you could just go round and knock on the door. They could genuinely not have the second key of course, but even so....

Do not tell him where you leave .. just in case... Whistle

Bye the way, in Italy when the car is stolen you must give the insurer both keys or you won't get your money back.
This is compulsory..

If your search does not get through, you'd better ask for a new set of lockers and keys (I do not know if this can be done easily on our cars..). My gallery: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=994

Fair point Gianluca,

when I had the bm stolen, the insurance wanted both sets of keys and both the thatcham alarm fobs.

Can't remember the wording on the ins paperwork, whether it said 'all' or 'both', probably 'all'. If you only ever got one you can't give them any more.

I've recently bought an RRS from Guy Salmon, Knutsford and it only came with 1 key.

The sales guy has assured me that a 2nd is on order and when it received they will forward to my local dealer who will programme it with the appropriate code.

Not sure if its an obligation but I think it should be!

If the dealer is selling a car I would guess he is under some obligation from LR to supply the car with 2 keys - it originally came with 2 keys when new so you should get 2 2nd hand. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten
