Door step tread plates

While searching the internet some months ago I found a site (poss USA) that had a list of Land Rover Technical service bulletins.......one of which covered the tread plates not sticking down correctly.

Anyway, mine has been a pain in the arse for ages but the damn thing caught my shoe and almost had me head over heals a couple of days ago!!!!!

The useless thing has bent in such a way that means it needs replacing since there is a little 'kink' in it.
I don't mind buying a new one but I might as well have a free one if there is a warranty issue with this part.

Does anyone know the link to this site......perhaps Bobby you might know mate?

It would be nice to armed with this piece of paper when I go into the dealers.

Thanks in advance.

I also have same issue but not had any joy with dealers wanting to replace it, if there is some documentation to cover the issue that would helpful.

Open the drivers door and look down just inside the door seal - shiney metal plate...

My dealer caught his foot on mine and bent it up to a 45 degree angle! Going back this week to have it replaced - haven't seen a TSB on it but it would appear that the double sided tape/glue they use it just not up to the job.

Haven't had this problem myself, but would have thought all bodyparts including interior fittings are covered by the Manufacturer's warranty for incorrect fitting.

I have had plenty of problems with my local dealer, but fair play to them, anything that was obviously faulty they changed under warranty and the odd thing that wasn't covered they did as goodwill.
Have had a new load cover when it wasn't retracting properly.

So I would go back and 'have another word'. Badly fitted interiors can be annoying but once they become dangerous they should be rectified at no cost, end of.

Good Luck Chaps Thumbs Up

Hmm, had a look through GTR and can't see a TSB about sill plates but that doesn't mean there isn't one. The site you mean is probably alldata.com but that is subscription access only.

Unless the dealer is willing to admit they weren't fitted properly, I wonder if you might have a discussion on your hands w.r.t. proving why they should fix under warranty - just looking at it from the other side Very Happy

Good luck though and let us know what happens Thumbs Up

Schmoogle, totally agree with you on how the Dealer would look at it.

If the tread plate is correctly designed and fitted correctly it shouldn't be loose and become a trip hazard.

I would have thought for a tread plate to be 'fit for purpose', it would need to stay in it's location point and not become a 'step'.

It should be able to stay in place after taking regular abuse from boots etc.

Now if someone in the past has been at it with a screwdriver, for whatever reason, then I can see why they wouldn't cover it. However that could have been a Dealer Service Employee trying to get at some thing like a loom.

But then again some have had issues with Driver Door Seals wearing out prematurely, and been told they have been abusing it. Thought it's job was to form a seal between the door and A, B pillars, Sill and Roof, and expected to be exposed when the door is open.

It's things like this that are stopping me from getting the MY10. Can't be doing with going through this type of crap after shelling out more hard earned. Evil or Very Mad
