Bloody punctures

Well I suffered my first puncture in the sport today, near side front v's a large screw..... and the screw won!

Not sure how long it took to go down but there were no signs, the car drove perfectly well until I came to a halt at a junction and felt extra road vibrations (shellgrip surface) through the steering wheel.

The tyre wall looks totally shagged, as if I had driven 100 miles on a flat.
Lucily the wheel is unmarked so I'm happy there!

Never realised how heavy these big wheels are, I am a big strong lad but it made me sweat a little changing it.

Looking forward to finding out the price of a new tyre, expecting £250+ when I ring around in the morning.

Bad Luck there Daz.

If it's a Conti, best you could hope for is around £220+VAT.

But full marks to you for changing it yourself, most people call LRA. Thumbs Up

Not just cos of the weight of the wheel but the useless jack as well. How did you get on with the standard one?

Not had to change one myself yet. Humped around a set of 4, it's good work out.

Only flat I had was in a loaner D3 from Stratstone. Didn't notice I had a flat at all while driving. Then pulled up outside the Service Dept, and heard a rather loud PSSSST and the front corner dropping very quickly.

Only thing was I'd not parked up in a bay, was right outside the doors blocking the DP and five other cars in. Whistle
DP came over and said is this your car?
Nope it's one of yours, I replied.
No problem, Are you finished with it? said DP.
Yep, do you need anything(cash) for the flat? Me
No, as long as your cars ready leave it for us to sort out. DP

Fair play to them, and perfect place to get a flat. It was one of the better service days from stratstone. Thumbs Up

Its a Pirelli zero, will call around for a qoute later this morning.

As for the tyre changing, the jack was fine... not sure I would have felt so confident using it on a motorway hard shouldder with lorries flying by!

It was a little fiddly getting the spare off the car and I'm not sure what height you should have the suspension set at the get the best results, certainly needs to be high to remove the spare.
I then dropped it to the lowest height to change the tyre but the suspension goes a long way up again before the wheel actually lifts off the ground, perhaps leaving it high up would have worked good too... who knows.

I will certainly be putting some rubber gloves and perhaps paper suit in the boot just in case I ever have to do it again!

Shocked Daz you have to have the suspension on off road height, to change tyres! Shocked

Otherwise the suspension will keep trying to raise itself!

Thumbs Up

Cheers Andy

They are Pirelli Scorpion Zero's 275/40/ZR20 106Y
I have managed to find a local man who will fit one with all the trimmings for £202 which seems bloody good value.

I'd be interested to know how good a deal it it though, if it is one.

Good job really since my off side front looks on it's last legs, noticed the inside edge is a little low on tread.
No amazing for an 18,ooo mile car, do the sports tend to wear a little more on the inside edges or should I have the tracking looked at. I know the front end has not taken and knocks in it's short life since the rims are unmarked.
