Hey People.

Done a stupid thing yesterday. Took the dogs for a walk and lost the car key.
House keys were in the car. Wife was away and no one had spare house keys.

So, Had to break the window. Got a lift home to find the spare keys and could not find it.

So back to the car with the RAC to recover it home. Their stupid driver thought he knew a way to get the car out of park without the keys.

Over an hour later and the dash in pieves he gave up. Another hour and a half later and another lorry turned up with skates. Then their jacks could not lift the car high enough to get the skates under.

A real nightmare. Ended up getting home from a dog walk at 5:45 am and £140 lighter for the recover plus the cost of a window.

Now today, I called the local (not helpful) LR dealer to order a new key.
Have been told they take 3 days to come and, that the car has to be with them to programme it. Plus £115 + VAT for the Key and £60+ to progamme it. But the car, does not move, the only way to move it is on a recovery truck again another £140.

Does anyone have any ideas pease, I am skint and desperate. This has turned into a nightmare.

Sorry to hear this Mr b. I'm afraid without the car LR can not program the key however I am surprised their isn't a mobile solution. Have you tried LR Assist or failing that talk to another LR service centre.

Thanks I did not try LR assist as the car is just out of Warranty. With that in mind is it worth a try? Mr B

Is the Dealer you mention your original supplying dealer, from the sounds of your first post you don't have much good will to leverage from them? Are they in Sidcup?
I'd try the just out of warranty bit with LR Customer Services and the Dealer to see if they will recover it for you.
Or the I'm interested in the new shape car will buy off you line, if you help me out.
LRA won't do anything if you're not a current 'member'.
Worse case, LRA for a year is around 160ish, if you have to pay a oneoff £140 recovery charge. May as well get LRA for a whole year for another score.

you can manually override the "park" position on the car! "ha ha HA HA" laughing all the way to the bank!

have sent you my number so i could talk you through it, also have details where to get genuine glass cheaper than the dealer  "ha ha HA HA" laughing all the way to the bank!

In the spirit of the forum (you know, sharing of information and that), you might want to let us all know what the park override sequence is?

ok i will do that but i wont do half a job i will take some pictures or even a video on how to do it (and hopefully a proper guide will prevent any one damaging any trim or the car) and maybe even stop people rolling down the drive in to another car or over there wife or  "ha ha HA HA" laughing all the way to the bank!

I wonder if it is true with programming. Few months ago I odered a new key to my car. it was suppose to take 3 weeks to deliver, because it had to be issued by LR UK based on VIN of the car.

When it finally arrived after 5 weeks, it appeared that the key had been cut incorrectly and it doesnt fit.

I agreed with dealer that I take the key and have the blade cut myself somewhere else and then I will need to come to the dealer to program it.

But surprisingly when I had the blade cut it appeared that the remote was already programmed! and I did not need to go to the dealer again.

So now I suspect that once the factory produces the key based on VIN they already program it, despite the fact that the dealer say that it has to be programmed by them.
