United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Range Rover V6 v Jaguar V6

From what I understand the engines for Range Rover and Jaguar are effectively the same

The Range Rover produces 180kw (245ps) and 600Nm
The lower Jaguar (on the XF) produces 177kw (240ps) and 500nm
The more powerful Jaguar produces 202kw (275ps) and 600Nm

So what is effectively the difference between the 3?

And would it be wise to "chip" a new RRS to 202kw (more power than the TDV8 - although only just)?

Thanks
Tony

RRS is different because Land Rover has retuned the engine to be suitable for off road use - try taking an XF where you can take an RRS TDv6 and you will plainly see the difference..................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The RRS has a different AWD. A RRS need power for AWD the Jaguar need power for speed and acceleration.

I believe the RRS engine is based on the high output TDV6 lump but as Tim said, retuned for the needs of a 2.7 tonne 4x4. I think the RRS has more torque than the XF. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad

It is also engineered to be able to operate at strange angles that Land Rovers are able to get to that Jaguars couldn't even dream about getting to, and still be able to normally lubricate the oily bits at these silly angles. IIRC ALL Land Rovers engines are engineered to stay running at 48 or 50 degrees across a slope and up and down a slope - apparrently no other SUV can operate at angles more than 40degrees. Standrad max imum is a 45degree cross slope and you don't want to go there intentionally in 2.7tonnes of luxury car, and if you do you are recommended to put the suspension into access mode to lower the centre of gravity of the car and to remove anything you have on the roofrack! I also believe the air intakes on the LR version are different and the new TDv6 will look cool in G4 guise as it has an intake for each bank of the V so that means either a raised intake on each wing or a very complex sealed breathing system to one raised intake! There are no dummy intakes on the 3.0ltr TDv6 like the 2.7 has 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
