Door lock problem...

Hi,
My front passenger door stays locked when I press unlock on the key or the unlock button on the dash as normal.
The confusing thing is that if the key is in the ignition then the unlock button on the dash works perfectly unlocking all the doors.
This rules out something sticking. Any ideas?

Is it worth locking / unlocking that door from the outside manually (ie with the key) to see if it 'resets' anything.....?

I sorted a similar prob for someone on a diff vehicle by mechanically locking / unlocking rather than electronically ....... seemed to reset whatever got confused.....

just an idea to try ........ Thumbs Up

Just tried manually locking/unlocking.
The lock will not unlock manually with the key at all. Also, when I tried to unlock the door with the button on the dash I have found that this works only when the engine is running, not when the ignition is on without the engine running.
Confused!

You are aware that you have to press the unlock twice to open all the doorlocks aren't you? 1st press only opens the drivers door 2nd press within 5 secs unlocks all the others 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

it will open when the engine is running because the is more "charge" in the electrnic system the alternator will be putting more "amps" and rasing the "voltage"

the extra "voltage" and "ampage" will assist the failing part as if you were giving the system more power a bit like a jumpstart situation

the battery could be on its way out (the very early stages)but i personally would change the internal locking mechanism as the battery is able to charge the starter to enable the car to start and iwould see it unlikley the car could start and not power the small actuator in the door lock,

you could try taking unit out and re greasing or soaking it in WD40 overnight but this would mearly sort the problem untill it "gets dry" again if your selling the car or dont mind spending time to save money do this.

otherwise its a new part from the dealers

common fault on mk4 golfs, audi tt's and x5 have bought many of these over the years to fix the same or similar fault on the mentioned cars

this should save you some time on labour charges and fault finding at the dealers
