hello There

I'm loosing some coolant. not much. It seems it is coming out of the black plastic screw (with the big screw cross) in top of the reservoir.
what is the purpose of this srew and can I screw it on.

waterpump has been replaced a few weeks ago. Is there any connection?

mees, that screw is for bleeding air out of the system, they may have left it slightly loose after water pump change, (so you may want to go back, and kick their arses Whistle ). You can try nipping it a bit tighter, but don't over do it, as the threads are only plastic. If that doesn't stop it, the screw / seal may need replacing. hello Textar

thanks, I srewed it a little bit tighter with an coin. I was quite loose. I think indeed to un-air the system they made it slightly loose and forgot to close it again.
I was afraid they did not fix the new pomp correctly. Hope now its solved. I will check again after few weeks and let you know.

or is it normal you loose a little bit coolant, let say 100-200 cc every 5000 km?

Hi mees, now your water pump has been replaced, and YOU have tightened the bleed screw (shame on your dealer Rolling Eyes ), I would not expect to lose much coolant, but after components in the cooling system have been replaced / disturbed you may need to top up by small amounts for a while until things settle down again, then it should not need more.Hope that helps. RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Hi there
still loosing some coolant out of the bleedscrew of the expansion bottle.
yesterday tried to tighten little bit faster (just with hands), but the screw became looser.
I think the screw is damaged, as most likely the plastic of the expansion bottle is stronger than the crew (or I'm I wrong?)
should I replace only this screw or the total expansion bottle?
If I replace the expansion bottle, is the sensor includes in this bottle?
any other suggestions? or should I try to close it with loctite?
please let me know

think I found the problem

seems I'm missing the seal of the bleed screw.
just hope only the screw thread of the bleeding screw is demaged and not the srew thread of the bottle.
kind regards,
mees

Mine has started to give low coolant messages again, keeping an eye on the levels and are ok, the message goes away after the engine warms up, and there is no mayo in the oil filler cap Phew! Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Mees, the bleed screw on mine has been leaking slightly, and I had a closer look at it yesterday, and it doesn't seem to have a seal on it at all, and the screw has a tang on the end of it to stop you taking it out of the coolant tank. I have put some PTFE tape (that plumbers use) on the thread of the screw and put it back in, and it seems to have stopped it weeping. I can't believe it has no seal, coolant will find it's way out of anything that has no seal or gasket unless it is absolutely precision manufacturing, (which LR's are most definately not Whistle ). RRS TDV8 Buck Blue (no, not now in my dreams). ..........D3 TDclankety clankV6 ............BMW 318i

Hi textar

It was not possible anymore to order the screw of the expansion tank. They modified the tanks (new part no LR013663) and the screw is now bigger and situated somewhere else. Today the whole tank was replaced as the screw threat was not good enough to close the tank. Sad
