2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Cache your if your Dealer is Pent***d, T*y or Cr**l Bry**n then they probably won't know a thing about it and deny there is such a thing being thought about! Dop you really want to wait until November/December to get you hands on a V8 when you could have an S/C or TDv6HSE right now? Sales directorr at the Stirling dealer was quite open about it's existance but wasn't sure when it would go into the RRS, claiming RR needed it more urgently than RRS. They put my name on their list of those wanting a TDv8 all the same! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

is the TDV6 version still going to be available after the V8 is released?

Or is the V8 going to replace it, and if so will the price go up?

Supposedly, the V6 will continue to be available as well as the V8. But as with most of these things, it will be a case of waiting for official announcements with regard to the lifespan of the TDV6...

The current V6 TDi diesel engine in the RRS will be replaced with a brand new engine that provides better emissions performance. But it isn't expected for at least 18 months. It is likely to be more expensive.

My advice for anyone who can afford it, is to wait for the new V8 TDI due in November. Ford has sunk considerable resources into this engine and everything I've heard about it convinces me that it is going to be worth waiting for. It should truly offer the best of both worlds in terms of both performance and economy. The chip addicts amongst us, should be able to eek out quite few extra ponies at the expense of consumption. While it may not have the top end responsiveness of the S/C, it will have ample and effortless pulling power in all gears on all roads. I don't think anyone realises how good it is going to be.

The reason why LR is keeping so quiet about it is because they know it will substantially affect sales for other RRS models and they don't want to create a production bottleneck.

This will enable LR to do it's usual thing with prices............ launch the new Freelander (bigger and more expensive than present) and then put the prices of all the other models up to maintain the differential between models. They will offer a few new extras (like the V8 for the sport , D3 and RR TD)) and use that as the justification to jack up the prices. I suspect it will do the values of our Tdv6s no harm at all as it will continue to be in demand for the average punter until the next small diesel engine arrives in 2007! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Trading on D3 for RR Sport

I have been given permission by my other half to trade in my 12 months old D3 TDV6 for a RR Sport. Very Happy I thought it would be best to wait for the new V8 Diesel as I find the D3 diesel sluggish when trying to overtake on Cornish A roads. I worry that the V8 petrol will depreciate too quickly and have got used to the abundant torque that comes with the oil burner.

Dealer tells me that ther will be a price hike of around £2500 for many RR Sport models for the September models as chassis/transmission upgrades are included as standard. Then there is the additional cost of the V8 diesel engine. He expects the V8 models to be available around November.

I hope that I will still be able to afford one then!

Tim in Scotland - you are nothing if not prolific! At least you can be relied upon for a well-informed response.

I am sure that the V8 diesel will be priced in such a way as to protect residual V6 prices - at least in the short term. They will take quite a hit when the new V6 arrives, but this is inevitable.

That said, I find £52K a bit steep. I tend to think it will come in just below the 4.4 V8 at around £48K, after all V6 prices do start at under £40K.

I could see a price increase with S/C moving to £60k
V8D to sit between £55-£58k
4.4V8 = couple of k
TDV6 move closer to 50k

Don't forget there is talk of increasing displacement of TDV6 to 3.0.

This would enable PAG to introduce either it, or V8D into new XK (Not as ridiculous as it sounds, this is an industry rumour. BMW UK has already propositioned BMW Germany to put 535d unit into 6 series)

If Freelander is increasing in size, could the top of the range Freelander be a TDV6 of 2.7L (Possibly slightly de-tuned?)

V6 Diesel in RRS and D3 would be 3L V6.

Only FFRR diesel would be V8D
