Wow, do they get them as low as £300?

Suppose they must do, as a friend paid around a grand for a container to Malta, which I thought wasn't too bad.

That was expensive! At the beginning of the year you could get your 40ft container from Southampton/Felixstowe to Yokohama for $1000...................... what costs you is the land side transport not the ship and I believe you will pay more than that $1000 to get the box from Manchester to the docks if you use the shipowner's truck or dedicated freight-train. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

It was a few years back, not sure if prices have changed much since then.

And Malta being such a small island, think the onward transport was reasonable.

Still, once put in context $1000 for a container to the other side of the world seems good value. Especialy if you were importing a classic cali car.

Or for the theiving bastards, stealing cars to order from here and off to wherever. Evil or Very Mad

Best way to ship a car from the USA is by the car carrier service - same one as LR use to take cars the other way!
Containers do go missing, I haven't heard of a floating multistory carpark being stolen, although 2 have rolled over in the last year............................ Ro-Ro, Roll on Roll Over! and there was the small matter of 1000 Saabs Volvos and BMW's that the Tricolor was carrying when she rolled over off Sandetti Banks a few years back 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim

We used to do container work out of Felixstowe and trust me when I say we weren't getting anything near that kind of money for delivering and picking up containers from and to there. Average rates were around £1.15 a mile. Most stuff out of Felixstowe went to Midlands so round trip was around £400-£500 for the round trip!! About £2500 for a WEEK was a bloody good week!! Current, M135i in Estoril Blue with more extras than the cast of Ben Hur.

535d m-sport Platinum grey and a few extras.... Gone

X5 3.0 sd in Space Grey, 20's, Dynamic Pack, Memory Pack, Media Pack, Tow Pack, Rear DVD, Panoramic Sunroof, Steps, 7 Seat Pack, Reversing Camera with moving lines, programmable park heat, etc etc etc - Gone

Range Rover Sport Santorini, privacy, dvd, towpack GONE!!!
