key fob

Is the water part true?

"Land Rover's Range Rover is famous for its ability to endure punishment, and the manufacturer's key fobs are a formidable match. Land Rover's Range Rover Sport and LR3 fobs feature a metal switchblade key housed inside heavy-duty plastic, which allows the fob to withstand a 30-foot drop onto concrete. Further, the fob's rubberized buttons allow it to survive submersion in up to 75 feet of water. There are three buttons on the fob: lock, unlock and an oval Land Rover logo button. The logo button can be programmed by the driver to operate the headlights, activate the alarm or even raise or lower the vehicle's suspension by 4.2 inches for hitching a trailer. Though the Land Rover's fob might not be the flashiest, its rugged design lives up to the vaunted Land Rover reputation for go-anywhere capability."

I was told that LR wanted this design of fob for the P38 Range Rover long before the L322 FFRR was launched but BMW were saving it for their then secret X5 so told LR designers it wasn't suitable for RR because it wasn't waterproof.
When L322 was being developed LR approached the makers of the fob, LR was then sold to Ford and LR were told what you have read........... so under Ford management the L322 FFRR got the fob LR wanted for the P38! I believe the BMW version is slightly different and doesn't recharge the battery while it is in the ignition and has extra functions on it but I may have been given some wrong info!!

I haven't dropped my fobs into 30ft of water to find out how true the claims are though Mr. Green 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yeah 75 foot of water is pretty deep, the buttons would certainly depress from pressure and I can't see how they wouldn't damage the internals of the key. 7 foot of water possibly but 75 foot!? Rolling Eyes
