tracking advice?????

ive got 22" alloys. took it into dealer and they balanced and tracked it, the steering wheel is off centre and it still feels like the car is pulling to the left.
taken it back to dealer and they had another look and said that its due to the 22's and the poor road surface that is causing this. is this true?
wot else can i do? can anyone suggest where i can take it to rectify the problem as the dealers are a waste of time and then charge £107 Sad
please help

That's why the warranty people don't approve of fitting anything bigger than 20's. The car isn't designed to take anything larger as it puts additional stress on the drive train and invalidates any factory warranty you might have had..................................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Try using the Search function on the orange tool bar at the top of the page because tracking has been a fairly frequent topic in the past. Many early RRS's suffered from horrendous tyre wear straight out of the factory - then allegedly the factory found tons of wheel balance weights lying under the gratings at the end of the production line............. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I have 22in wheels on my sport and i have not had any problems with tracking and balancing. I had them put on when i purchased nearly 1.5 years ago. I had 20inch wheels on my previous car that came with 16inch wheels as standard and i had that car for nearly 6 years with no problems. So i am not quite in agreement with Tim in relation to putting addition stress on the drive train, especially as the Sport is supposed to be a far more robust vehicle.

V, You should try Protyre centre. I use them for my 22" wheels. Most dealers do not have the correct equipment for aligning and balancing 22" wheels as I found out. Use their website to locate the centre nearest to you.

My car has similar at the moment and I'm just running the factory 18's.. My dealer is trying to say it is the road camber... Funny that it didn't do this in the first year of ownership on the same roads!

Hi, two simple things to try. Find a good road with not much of a camber if there is such a thing in the UK, drive down the centre of the road (watch out for other motors though) you should be able to let your steering wheel go or hold very lightly and the rr should continue on fairly straight, or drive down a one way street on the right see what the rr does, !pull left or right!

I have 22'S x 285 wide on my rr and have no trouble unless there is an adverse camber, the only thing is the ride is harder and I feel holes on the road more than the 20's. have fun. Smile

PS, the stearing wheel should have been set straight when the tracking was done but will sit off when driving on a cambered road.

cheers

hi

hi all i had my wheels tracked up yesterday at just car clinic as there lazer equipment does anything up to 24inch wheels,i found it out by accident after searching round lots off tyre fitters, but i was also told you can track up with the original wheels, and the fit the 22's, if you dont have it tracked up the wheel position sensers tell the vehicle the wheel isnt straight and shuts down the Hdc/dsc/air suspension, all 4x4 systems,as mine did two days ago,it cost £45 to have it done, but any body shop with wheel alignment can do it,hope this helps
