2008 XS Aux in DIY?

Hi - apologies if this has been dealt with before but I have looked and can't find the exact answer..

I have a 2008 XS which was helpfully supplied without the benefit of the rear AUX in 3.5mm jack. This is irritating because I am pretty sure the cabling is there - I popped out the little plastic change holder on the back of the armrest, under the central rear air-vents and have discovered two redundant sets of cables.

The first set comprises two cables - 1 black and 1 pruple and black and my trusty multimeter tells me it is live with the ignition, so best avoided when it comes to plugging things into my Ipod, I reckon.

The second set, however, is thinner and terminates in what looks like a narrow-pin audio type connector block. There are three cables, black, red and blue - none of them show up as live and I'm therefore jumping to the conclusion that it's the AUX in feed - ground, left and right.

Does anyone actually know if I'm right or shall I just try connecting up to a 3.5mm socket and test it out? I am happy to do so and will post results..

Thanks in advance,

Ade

Thanks Bobby!

Yeah - perfect.

It's C2831 according to that diagram, now I just need to find out if it connects to the AUX in on the stereo head unit.

Top man - thanks again.

Confirmed!

Thanks so much Bobby - that diagram confirms that the C2831 socket (I'll send a few pics when I do the installation) is indeed the AUX in. Can't believe that LR wanted £400+ to fit a socket for me, when the wiring loom is already there Sad

Anyhoo, off to Maplin to get a surface mount 3.5mm socket. I'll post the results - looks like less than a tenner to retro-fit, however..!

Thanks again Bobby - what a mine of information.

No Go :-(

Wired it all up, but not a dicky. I suspect the other end may be disconnected as I wasn't even getting electrical popping noises through the speakers as I fiddled with and dis / re connected the wires to the 3.5mm Jack.

Shame - seemed so promising Wink

Thanks for all your help anyway, Bobby.

Hi ade - have a look over on www.DISCO3.CO.UK for aux input, there's loads of information over there. The D3 and RRS systems are the same. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Hmmm

Thanks guys but I can't find a clear answer over there either. I can't believe that the plug in the back is not terminated at the front - that really wouldn't make any sense Wink

I'll scratch my head a bit and see if I can come up with a rational explanation !

Thanks shmoogle, that really does help, albeit in a negative manner Sad

"So I investigated and whilst I'm convinced the wires in the back are the right ones, they don't go anywhere !! Connector in front pass footwell doesn't contain those wires coming from the stereo ! So, I conclude that LR didn't fit any aux wiring to the XS !

Next ? Radio out !!!

Thanks for your help

Hayden"

So at least you (and Hayden) have stopped me wasting any more time Wink

Ade, look in my link to DISCO3 - that's for the base model D3 which may be wired the same as the XS RRS. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!
