Close to buying, help required!

Hi Guys

This is my first post but I've already done plenty of searching/reading. It's a great site.

I want to buy a used RRS but am having trouble deciding what to go for. I'd prefer the TDV8 but am worried about the suspension issue/knocking noise. I know that this is also a potential issue on all cars with Dynamic Response so will effect s/c and later TDV6 models too.

So, I'm guessing that the only way to categorically avoid this possibility is to go for a RRS without Dynamic Response, so this would mean an earlier TDV6? So is this right?

Also, am I worrying too much about the suspension issue? I'd far prefer the TDV8 if possible.

Finally, I want to put three child seats across the back seats. I tried putting two in at a dealer and there seemed to be room for a third but I wondered if anyone else has three seats in their car. Kids are 7, 3 and 0 (due in July!)

Thanks for your help.

Nodz

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Welcome to the party!!!

On the child seat issue i have had 3 seats across the back but the middle one was a booster seat and a bit of a squeeze, i guess the only way to find out is to take all 3 seats to the dealer and give it a go Thumbs Up

Get the TDV8 - it is by far a better engine, also there seem to be positive feedback for the latest fix to the knocking problem - 1 day fix under warranty.

Child seats. Yes you will be able to put 3 in the back as long as the 7 yo uses a booster seat in the middle seat. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Thanks for everyone's comments. I'd love a TDV8 but there still seems some doubt even with this new fix. And the car's for my wife and family more than me so I want to be sure.

Going back to my original question, is it only cars with Dynamic Response that are effected? So, to avoid all doubt I'd need to go for an early TDV6 (as later V6, and all V8 and S/C al had DR). Anyone know when DR was included on ther TDV6 so I know which cars to look at?

Thanks again.

I think DR became an option on the TDV6s via the "Dynamic Pack" for MY07 vehicles - so that would have been shipping dates from Sep 2006 onwards. It's standard on HSEs nowadays, but I don't think it was back then... Confused

The trouble is, although this problem does only affect those cars with DR, it doesn't affect ALL cars with DR as soon as you start driving them i.e there have been DR-equipped vehicles here that don't suffer from it. Whether it's a matter of time before all DR vehicles display the symptom, has never really been confirmed.

The counter-issue is that DR-equipped RRSs handle SO much better than non-DR. Secondly, if you decided to mitigate the risk of having the problem by ensuring your chosen car didn't have DR (i.e. by choosing an MY06 model), then it would be either close to or out of warranty by now so it throws up a bunch of extra risks.

Alternatively, wait for MY10 to release where we believe the problem has been resolved by using a completely different suspension Very Happy

How about I get the selling dealer to guarantee that, if the car develops the suspension issue during the warranty period, and they can't fix it, then they will replace the car or give me my money back?

It's a big ask but if they won't stand by their cars - and their mechanics - then maybe they shoudn't be selling them at all...

Fair point, but I doubt you'd get them to sign up to that... mind you, if you don't ask you don't get.
